About Le Manoir Blackwood
A horror gamebook for the Commodore 64 in the spirit of the Fighting Fantasy books (Défis Fantastiques in French). Maine, autumn 1984: on a stormy night a highway accident sends you down back roads, and your car ends up in a ditch near Blackwood Manor, empty since everyone in it died one night in December 1897, and something that takes the faces of the dead has chosen you next. You explore the estate and the house, fight and test your luck with animated dice, and keep a FEAR gauge from overflowing, because if it does you die of fright. The page lists more than 420 sections, many endings, more than 120 illustrations, original SID music, four difficulty levels from Easy to Nightmare, saves on a separate disk and a built-in fast loader. The credits read “An adventure by COMMODORE64MANIA and CLAUDE AI”, with story, illustrations and music by Commodore 64 Mania, and in the comments the developer says they know nothing about coding and made two games with AI. It is a free download on itch.io (name your own price): four disk sides, a save disk and a manual, in separate English (Blackwood Manor) and French versions, for a PAL C64 with a 1541 drive or the VICE emulator. It is the developer's second Claude-made C64 gamebook, after La Citadelle des Brumes.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe game's credits on its itch.io page read “An adventure by COMMODORE64MANIA and CLAUDE AI”, and give story, illustrations and music to Commodore 64 Mania; the page's AI disclosure tags are AI Assisted, Code, Graphics and Text. In a French comment on the page, the developer says that with AI anyone can make this kind of thing, and that they made two games without knowing anything about coding. The page does not say which Claude product or model was used, nor spell out that Claude wrote the code, though the credits leave only the code unassigned to the developer.
The developer wrote the story, drew the illustrations and composed the music, per the credits, and made the game with Claude AI, credited as co-author; the developer says they cannot code. The game runs from four disk sides with its own fast loader and saves to a separate disk. Version 1.1, two days after release, reworked one illustration and kept saves from 1.0 compatible.

“An adventure by COMMODORE64MANIA and CLAUDE AI (2026). Story, illustrations and music: COMMODORE64MANIA.”Verification notes: Credits, AI disclosure tags, game details, files, requirements and publication time (31 Oct 2026, 17:31 UTC) from the developer's itch.io page; the developer's “I know nothing about coding” remark is a French comment on the same page (about 1 Nov 2026); version 1.1 from the devlog of 2 Nov 2026. “CLAUDE AI” is recorded as Claude because the page names neither Claude Code nor a model. The English title Blackwood Manor is the one the developer uses on the page and for the English download. Counts (420 sections, 120 illustrations) are the developer's and were not checked; we did not run the C64 program. The developer is known only by the itch.io name Commodore 64 Mania (handle outrun69); location and team size are not stated. Asked whether it is based on the Fighting Fantasy book House of Hell (Le Manoir de l'Enfer), the developer replied that it shares the starting point but the rest of the adventure is different. Their earlier gamebook, La Citadelle des Brumes, is a separate game with its own profile.

- AI use for graphics and text
- The itch.io AI disclosure ticks Graphics and Text among the AI-assisted areas, but the credits on the same page give the story and illustrations to Commodore 64 Mania. The page does not say what AI contributed to either. (itch.io)
