About AFTERLIGHT: The Beginning of Apocalypse
A cinematic side-view survival story, about 60 to 90 minutes long across eight levels. The night the city went quiet, an emergency notice gave everyone six rules: lock your doors, make no noise, don't approach them, conserve, be ready, wait for help. Alex followed them, but his little sister June was evacuated without him, and now her voice is on the radio every night, reading out the names of the living. The rules double as mechanics: noise draws the infected, barred doors buy time and cover hides you. You sneak or fight with silent takedowns and a handgun that needs reloading, hide from a horde you cannot beat, protect a doctor carrying the last samples, and your choices about who you helped and what you promised are remembered. The developer, Anika_Tasnim, says Claude built all of the code, all of the art (vector graphics drawn in code) and all of the audio (synthesized, with no samples), and wrote the story and dialogue from the developer's brief, while the developer handled creative direction, story and design decisions and playtesting. It is made in Godot 4.5, free to play in the browser on itch.io or as a Windows download, and was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5 and three other jams.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe itch.io page says the game was built with heavy AI assistance from Claude by Anthropic: all code; all art, as vector graphics drawn in code with no image files; all audio, synthesized by a program with no samples; and the story and dialogue, written from the developer's brief. The developer's part was creative direction, story and design decisions, playtesting, bug reports and feedback. The AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission lists Claude as the AI tool used. Which Claude product or model was used is not stated.
- DeveloperAI Browser Game Jam 5 submission: “AI Tools Used: Claude”. The jam requires development to be heavily AI-assisted, with the majority of the game AI-generated. — itch.io (AI Browser Game Jam 5, hosted by Focaccai)
The developer directed and playtested while Claude produced the code, the code-drawn art, the synthesized audio and the written story and dialogue, per the itch.io page. In the comments the developer said they had fixed, within a day, three issues reported by a jam playtester: a missing rules screen on the Tab key, the embed overflowing the page, and the focus click counting as a shot.
“Built with heavy AI assistance (Claude by Anthropic): all code; all art (vector graphics drawn in code, no image files); all audio (sound effects, ambience and music synthesized by a program, no samples); story and dialogue written from my brief.”Verification notes: Story, mechanics, length, controls, AI usage statement, engine, platforms and publication time (22 Oct 2026, 09:57 UTC; updated 29 Oct 2026) from the developer's itch.io page. Team size 1 rests on the page credits, which name only Anika for game and direction alongside Claude, the engine and fonts. The 100% AI code share reflects the developer's “all code”. The page shows submissions to four jams: AI Browser Game Jam 5 (hosted by Focaccai; submissions 17–31 Oct 2026), Karni's October Game Jam 2026, All Tools Allowed #3 — A Critics Arcade AI Game Jam, and Bound Jam 2026. Voting in AI Browser Game Jam 5 was still open on 3 Nov 2026, so no ranking is recorded; the jam lists Claude as the entry's AI tool. The game has no public itch.io rating yet. Gender pronouns for the developer are not used; Alex's pronoun follows the game's text. We did not play the game.
