About Imperium
Imperium is a single-player, turn-based 4X space strategy game. You start with one homeworld, colonize planets tile by tile, design warships from more than 80 components, research 68 technologies and deal with 21 species through diplomacy, espionage or war, with six ways to win. Solo developer Daniel Petroff (Petroff Games) says it was built in Godot with Claude writing the implementation while he directed, designed and balanced it. The rival empires are run by conventional, algorithmic game AI: the Steam disclosure says the in-game opponents use traditional algorithmic AI, not generative AI. Art, music and sound effects were made with generative AI tools and edited by hand. It is a paid game on Steam for Windows, macOS and Linux.

How it was built
Partially verifiedThe developer says the game was built in Godot with Claude writing the implementation, while he directed, designed and balanced it. He balanced the game by running it against itself headless, in batches of 8 seeds over 4,000–6,000 simulated years each. He does not say which Claude product or model was used. Art was made with Midjourney and ChatGPT plus Photoshop, music with Suno and sound effects with ElevenLabs.
- DeveloperSteam launch announcement (2 Nov 2026): Imperium is made by one developer with AI; Claude (by Anthropic) writes the code under his design and direction, the art and music are made with AI tools, and the translations are AI-made. — Steam (Petroff Games)
- DeveloperThe developer's itch.io page tags its AI disclosure as AI Assisted: Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text, and says the game is built in Godot 4.5. — itch.io
- DeveloperSteam AI disclosure covers art, music and sound effects only and says design, systems and balance are the developer's own; it adds that in-game opponents use traditional algorithmic AI, not generative AI. — Steam
Solo development in Godot, with Claude writing the code and the developer directing design and balance. Balance changes were tested in headless self-play simulations rather than only by hand, and changes that did nothing at scale were reverted. The rival empires use conventional, algorithmic game AI with distinct personalities; no generative AI runs during play. Built-in modding tools let players edit the tech tree and items.

“Built in Godot with Claude writing the implementation, me directing, designing, and balancing.”Verification notes: Claude is named in the developer's Steam launch announcement of 2 Nov 2026 ("Claude (by Anthropic) writes the code under my design and direction") and in a post by u/keaslenyt on r/aigamedev, read through a mirror snapshot captured 11 Sep 2026; the original reddit.com URL was not checked. The post links this Steam app and the same Discord server that the developer's site petroffltd.com/imperium links, which ties the account to Petroff Games. The developer's itch.io page (linked from that site) declares AI-assisted code. The Steam AI disclosure does not mention code; it covers art, music and sound, and states that the opponents use traditional algorithmic AI, not generative AI, so this is not an AI-gameplay title. Release date, price and platforms from the Steam store API; review figures from the store page. Solo development from the press kit and the Steam disclosure. Steam lists Brazilian Portuguese, which the press kit does not; the press kit marks Simplified Chinese and Japanese as beta. The itch.io page is an in-development alpha page with no download offered when checked, so it is not listed as a store listing.
