About Bayun

A turn-based puzzle adventure drawn from Slavic folklore. Kot Bayun, a black cat, sings a whole village to sleep from a carved pillar; only Nemko, a small golem the old smith made from the church bell, cannot sleep, and climbs the pillar over three nights. Every action is a step in eight directions: walk straight into a creature to strike it, diagonally to offer a gift (the direction picks the hand), onto a niche to take an item or onto a chain to choke off the cat's next tale. Bayun watches where you walk: on the left he tells tales that send creatures after you, on the right he sings, putting them to sleep but making the moon move twice as fast. Each creature lacks something that a riddle gives away; the right gift turns it against him. Hounds, a weeping birch, crows, the grey wolf, a rusalka and Baba Yaga appear, and there are five endings. You can preview every move before you take it. A full climb takes under 30 minutes. The developer, Kay Kovalčík (Atlas House), says Claude (Opus 5.5, in Claude Code) wrote all the code in Godot 4 and built the 3D puppets and print-style art pipeline; Midjourney made the backgrounds and ElevenLabs the voices. Made for Jamference: AI Game Jam Hack 1, where it ranked 15th overall. Free in the browser on itch.io, including on phones.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer's jam answer: “Claude (Opus 5.5, in Claude Code): all the code (Godot 4), the 3D figures (Blender) turned into animated puppets, the print-style art pipeline, sound levelling, test tools and balance simulation, and first drafts of the text.” A test checks thousands of the game's move forecasts, and bots played thousands of games to tune difficulty. The team field credits Claude with engineering, 3D and animation, pipelines and testing, and the developer with direction, writing, art direction, voice direction and sound. Midjourney made the backgrounds, frame, story prints and character references; ChatGPT did visual edits; ElevenLabs the voices and Suno the music.

Development approach

Made in Godot 4 and Blender for Jamference: AI Game Jam Hack 1. Claude Code wrote all the code and turned Blender figures into animated puppets through a custom engraver that gives renders a folk-print look; Midjourney made the 2D illustrations, ElevenLabs the narration and Bayun's voice, Suno the songs. Verification notes: AI use from the developer's answer on the official jam submission page and the itch.io credits, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. The 100% AI code share reflects “all the code (Godot 4)”. The jam's own rule (“AI must be part of the build”) is not code-specific. Team: the submission credits Kay Kovalčík (Atlas House) and lists Claude for engineering; one person. Publication (8 Oct 2026, 06:02 UTC; updated 29 Oct 2026), status, genre and tags from the itch.io page; the submission page said it was submitted 1 day and 54 minutes before the 9 Oct, 07:00 UTC deadline. Story, rules and the under-30-minute climb from the itch.io page; the developer gives bot-tested success rates (about half for careful play, about 10% for clicking forward), which we did not check. Jam results (11 ratings): 15th overall (3.727), 13th in Polish, 16th in Use of AI, 19th in Fun. Kot Bayun, Baba Yaga, the rusalka and the grey wolf come from Slavic folklore, so no third-party IP notice applies. The narration and Bayun's voice were made with ElevenLabs and ship as files; no calls to AI services were found in the web build. The game was not played.
