About Legends of Future Past

Legends of Future Past was a commercial multiplayer text RPG (a MUD) that launched on CompuServe in 1992, moved to the open internet in 1994 and closed on 31 December 1999. Its source code was lost. In 2026 its creator, Jon Radoff, gave Claude Code the surviving script files, a 1998 game-master scripting manual, a captured 1996 play session and player documentation, and asked it to figure out what the game was and rebuild it. Over roughly a weekend the agent reverse-engineered the original scripting language and produced a new engine in Go, a React frontend, WebSocket multiplayer and MongoDB persistence. The rebuild is free to play in the browser and open source under the MIT license.
