About DriveWave

DriveWave is a free desktop companion and typing game. A small, always-on-top window sits over whatever you are doing, and every keystroke you type, in any app, drives your car further down an endless neon highway. You unlock deserts, forests and cities, collect and customise cars and chase leaderboards; the September 2026 v2.0 update added online multiplayer, rally, drag and police-chase modes and a livery editor. On r/ClaudeAI the account u/tolgatr0n wrote that they made the game in Unity in about three weeks without writing a single line of code, crediting Claude. The developer on Steam is Dumbbell Games, a studio in Mersin, Türkiye, whose DriveWave announcements are signed “Tolga”; the link between the Reddit account and the studio rests on that name. Free on Steam for Windows and macOS, with an optional paid Supporter Pack.

How it was built

Partially verified
ClaudePrimary

A post by u/tolgatr0n on r/ClaudeAI says they made this free desktop companion and typing game in Unity in about three weeks from zero without writing a single line of code themselves; the post's title credits Claude. It does not say which Claude product or model was used. The poster adds that AI removed the barrier on the coding side but is not great at design tasks: AI tools give suggestions, but putting them together is still on the developer, and AI is not there yet on how a game feels or looks.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperSteam AI disclosure: the game is made by a solo developer, and AI was used for some store-page assets and select in-game art in supporting roles. It does not mention code. — Steam
Development approach

Built in Unity. Per the Reddit post, the first build took about three weeks from scratch, with no code written by hand; the launch announcement calls it a small summer side project. Per the Steam disclosure, AI was also used for some store-page assets and select in-game art, and the developer's November 2025 update says most of the 142 in-game music tracks are AI-generated. The September 2026 v2.0 update, which the developer calls essentially a remake, added multiplayer, new modes and 76 new cars; no source says how its code was written.

“I made a free desktop companion / typing game in Unity for Steam and didn't write a single line of code myself.”
— Dumbbell Games, I made a typing game/companion and didn't write a single line of code thanks to Claude (r/ClaudeAI, u/tolgatr0n; mirror snapshot)

Verification notes: The AI claim rests on one post by u/tolgatr0n on r/ClaudeAI, read through a mirror snapshot captured 14 Mar 2026; the original reddit.com URL was not checked. The post says “I made” and links this Steam app. The only other tie between the account and the developer is a name match: DriveWave's Steam announcements are signed “Tolga”, and the publisher site beindie.dev (the website listed on Steam) says Tolga Coşkun runs beindie, the publishing label of Dumbbell Games. No developer page links the Reddit account. The Steam AI disclosure covers only some store-page assets and select in-game art and says nothing about code; it does not contradict the post, but the code claim depends on the post alone. The post describes the original 2025 build; the September 2026 v2.0 update, which the developer calls essentially a remake, may have been made differently. Release date, platforms, price, DLC and languages from the Steam store API; review figures from the store page (the review API returned nothing when checked). The 10,000-player figure (March 2026) is the developer's own and is kept in the history. The v2.0 notes mention AI opponents and police, which read as ordinary game bots; no source says generative AI runs during play.

Development history

  1. A free demo is released on Steam.

  2. Released free on Steam. The launch announcement describes it as a game made over the summer with the developer's son as a small side project.

  3. Update v1.2.1 adds a jukebox with 142 music tracks, most of them AI-generated according to the developer.

  4. Mid-March 2026 (archived 14 Mar 2026)

u/tolgatr0n posts on r/ClaudeAI that they made the game without writing a single line of code, crediting Claude.

  5. Update v1.5.0: the developer says DriveWave has reached 10,000 players (the developer's own figure, not recorded as a metric) and adds native macOS input support.

  6. Update v2.0 adds online multiplayer, an endless procedural road with rally, drag and police-chase modes, 76 new cars and a livery editor.

Game performance

Each figure measures something different — concurrent players, owners, downloads and sales are never interchangeable and are never added together. Labels show where each number comes from.

Steam

Free on the Steam store API on 3 Nov 2026; an optional Supporter Pack DLC (US$4.99, titled “Unlock all cars”) unlocks the 318 legacy cars; its store text says Wave and Formula drop cars are not included. Windows and macOS.
