About Extreme Racing Line

Extreme Racing Line is a minimalist top-down arcade racer on single-screen tracks that you can see in full. A run stays alive as long as the whole car has not left the track, so you can ride the edge and squeeze through corners at the limit. Runs are short and built for instant restarts: pick a car, learn the corners and chase faster laps, star ratings and places on the global leaderboards. Cars, unlocked and bought as you progress, differ in top speed, acceleration, grip and steering. Players who reach a leaderboard upload a replay with their score that others can watch, and those replays also appear as ghost cars in other players' races, a feature that is on by default and can be switched off in the settings. The developer's Steam AI disclosure says all of the game's code was generated with generative AI and none was written by hand, while the gameplay, levels, balancing and controls were designed, directed, tested and approved by a human. Made by 贪玩狗工作室 (Playful Dog Studio), which describes itself as a small indie team. A paid game on Steam for Windows, released 24 Jun 2026 at US$14.99, with a free demo; its interface is in 30 languages.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer's Steam AI disclosure says: “All of the game's code was generated using generative AI, and no code was manually written by the developer.” It adds that the gameplay, levels, balancing, controls and overall player experience were entirely designed, directed, tested and approved by a human creator. No tool or model is named; a May 2026 devlog says the developer asked an AI about Steam's leaderboard documentation, again without naming it.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperThe developer writes that, knowing nothing about backend development, a self-built server was out of the question, and that the Steam leaderboard replay feature came about after asking an AI about the documentation. — Steam (Extreme Racing Line news)
Development approach

Per the Steam disclosure, all code was generated with generative AI and none written by hand, while a human designed, directed, tested and approved the gameplay, levels, balancing and controls. The developer's devlog says that without backend experience a custom server was out of the question, so online features use Steam's own leaderboards: replays are uploaded as extra data with each leaderboard score and replayed as ghost cars. The engine is not named.

Verification notes: The AI claim rests on the developer-written AI disclosure on the game's Steam page (re-read on 4 Nov 2026), which says all of the code was generated with generative AI and none was written by hand; no tool is named, so the tool is recorded as undisclosed. The 100% code share is the developer's own statement. Steam lists playfuldog.xyz as the website; the site links this Steam page, calls the studio a small indie team and lists the game as Line Racing (极线赛车), still marked “Coming Soon” on 4 Nov 2026 although it is out on Steam. The location is not stated: the studio name is Chinese and the developer posted a China-only price change, but neither says where the team is based. Release date, price, Windows only and the 30 languages from the Steam store API; the demo date from the demo's store API entry. The Traditional Chinese title 極線賽車 is the name Steam shows in Traditional Chinese. Leaderboard replays and ghost cars use recorded runs by other players, not AI.
