About Torch Passers of SPLORR!!
A short, comic choice-based text game about passing a torch down a family line. Eight generations carry it, and in each one three things happen to you (a goat eats the map, a stranger offers to hold your torch, the mayor wants a permit for you to be on fire); you decide what to do about each, then choose an heir and the torch moves on. Only one item and one grudge can come along, and neither arrives unchanged: a ladle becomes a handy ladle, then a favorite big spoon, and a grudge loses its reason after two handoffs but is kept anyway. Carrying both costs flame. The flame drops at every handoff, and the best ways to feed it cost something else: most need a resource (Pride, Livestock, Reputation or Snacks), and resources reset with each new heir, so spending one can close a door later. If the flame goes out, so does the dynasty. Past dynasties come back, and in later runs a relative may turn up with what a finished dynasty still held. A full dynasty is about 70 choices; you click a choice or press its number, and progress is saved in the browser after every choice. The developer, The Grumpy GameDev, says the code (Odin compiled to WebAssembly), the game's text and the tests were written with Claude Code from the developer's design decisions and playtesting. Free in the browser on itch.io; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe credits on the itch.io page say the game was made for a jam that asks for heavy AI assistance “and it got it”: the code (Odin compiled to WebAssembly), the game's text and the tests were written with Claude Code, from the developer's design decisions and playtesting. The jam submission's AI Tools Used answer reads: “I used Claude Code to write it.”

Made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch). The developer made the design decisions and playtested; Claude Code wrote the code in Odin, compiled to WebAssembly, along with the game's text and the tests. The faces come from the Urizen 1-bit tileset by vurmux (CC0) and the cover lettering is the Public Pixel Font by GGBotNet (CC0); the torch, the cover and the page are drawn by code, and the sound effects were generated with jsfxr by script. The page says no image or music generators were used.

“The code (Odin compiled to WebAssembly), the game's text and the tests were written with Claude Code, from my design decisions and playtesting.”Verification notes: AI use from the credits on the itch.io page and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. Both say the code was written with Claude Code; neither gives a share, so no AI code share is recorded. The itch.io AI disclosure ticks Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text, although the credits say no image or music generators were used. Publication (17 Oct 2026, 10:52 UTC) and last update (24 Oct 2026, 08:45 UTC) from the itch.io page. The jam page shows the account's X handle as @TheGrumpyGameD1. Team size is not stated. The build's JavaScript loader fetches only the game's WebAssembly file and local sound effects and makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026 (2 ratings so far), so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
