About Fight For Life 32X

A 3D fighting game for the Sega 32X add-on, and a port rather than an original game: it brings Fight For Life, the 1996 Atari Jaguar fighter created by Francois-Yves Bertrand, to the 32X, rebuilt from the original Jaguar source and asset archive. Eight fighters, a gatekeeper and a two-form demon boss fight in a square ring with an electric fence, where a ring-out is an instant KO; the modes are Tournament (best of three against the other seven, then the boss), Beginner, Practice and Two Player. After each tournament win you steal two of the opponent's moves, up to 14, and a ten-character password restores your custom fighter; the README says move stealing is not in the original FYBMAIN.S source, and that it and the password format are the port's own design, built to match the original feature document. The port adds a pause menu with a 20-second replay you can rotate and zoom, a rolling or static camera, volume settings and move lists, plus air attacks. To fit the 32X the fighters have about 35% fewer polygons and are flat-shaded instead of texture-mapped; the original soundtrack plays through a re-implementation of the Jaguar synth. The developer, D-Mar The Daytripper (Dmar3000 on itch.io), calls it a vibe-port made with Haroldo-Ok's Sega 32X skill for Claude. A free 4 MB ROM for a flashcart or a 32X emulator.

The itch.io page and README credit the port as “Vibe-Ported by D-Mar The Daytripper” with Haroldo-Ok's Sega 32X Skill for Claude and Chilly Willy's 32XDK, and the page's AI disclosure ticks Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text; the page is also tagged “vibe-port” and “ai-hands”. The third-party notices say the game's 3D pipeline began from the clean-room engine that ships with that skill. Which Claude product or model was used is not stated. The page describes the inner sound-mixing loop as hand-written SH-2 assembly without saying who wrote it.

Development approach

Rebuilt as a native 4 MB 32X cartridge from the original Jaguar source and asset archive: the models, motion capture, move and AI tables, arenas, art and sounds come from the archive, and the rules are re-implemented from the original FYBMAIN.S. The master SH-2 runs the game at 30 Hz and transforms the fighters; the slave SH-2 mixes six sound-effect voices and the FULSYN music, which is re-implemented in C from the original synth data, and draws the backdrop and floor between audio blocks. Everything fits the 32X's 256 KB of SDRAM, with about 3 MB of data left in cartridge ROM. The page reports 20 fps in fights in the PicoDrive emulator with music on, up from 6 before optimisation.

Verification notes: Port credit, AI disclosure, features and technical details from the itch.io page (published 16 Oct 2026 16:23 UTC) and the README and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md downloaded from it. The devlog announcing the game is dated 13 Oct 2026 (04:15 UTC), three days before the page's publication date; the itch.io date is used for release. The page says “Skill for Claude” without naming a model, so the tool is recorded as Claude. Two Player is a local mode on two pads. The rating was observed on the itch.io page on 4 Nov 2026 (UTC). Original game: the credits name Francois-Yves Bertrand as director, designer and programmer, with art by Richard Ho and Silvio Porretta and music by Nathan Brenholdt, Hans-Martin Kröber, Joe Vitale and Paul Foster, originally published by Atari Corporation. The notices say the data comes from the original Jaguar source and asset archive FFLSRC.ZIP, “supplied by the user”, that those materials remain the property of their rights holders and are not covered by the project's licence, and that the archive is not redistributed in the source tree; the ROM itself contains the converted data. No source mentions a licence from the rights holders, and how the source archive became available is not stated. No source code repository is linked. The ROM was not run.
