About Stainless Gunner
A 3D mech action game for the Sega 32X add-on. You are a Gunner, a licensed mercenary based at The Rusty Cove, a home base laid out as a wheel of six sections: build a rig in a modular garage from parts tagged by the four yards that post the contracts, take those contracts across a 32-scenario campaign, and pay for damage out of a ledger; if the debt sinks past -50,000 credits, a Salvage Programme rebuilds you. In combat each arm has its own fire button, a back unit fires on its own, and double-tap dashes, jumps, lock-on and six camera views shape the fights. A deathmatch mode takes one or two players on two pads plus up to four CPU rigs, with separate saved garages for each player and options for playfield, split screen, time and weather. A six-button pad is required. Before every fight a “Now Loading...” screen runs for 3.5 seconds, which the page calls a deliberate tribute to “the PS1 classic” that you can switch off after finishing the campaign. The developer, D-Mar The Daytripper (Dmar3000 on itch.io), says it was vibe-coded with Haroldo-Ok's Sega 32X skill for Claude, and that the game is inspired by Armored Core's structure but contains no code, data or art from it. A free 4 MB ROM for a flashcart on real hardware or a 32X emulator.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe itch.io page credits the game as “Vibe-coded by D-Mar The Daytripper” with Haroldo-Ok's Sega 32X Skill for Claude and Chilly Willy's 32XDK (spelled “Chill Willy's” on the page), and the page's AI disclosure ticks AI Assisted, Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text; it is tagged “vibe-coded” and “ai-hands”. Which Claude product or model was used is not stated. The page text refers to the developer in the third person (“D-Mar The Daytripper intentionally requested this delay”, “The user reports the preceding build plays great on original Sega 32X”).
- DeveloperREADME.md, downloaded from the page, opens with the same credit: vibe-coded with Haroldo-Ok's Sega 32X Skill for Claude and the 32XDK; it calls the game a clean-room mech game written from scratch. — Dmar3000 (itch.io)
A 4 MiB Sega 32X cartridge written from scratch, with software 3D, ballistic weapons and a PWM software mixer, split across the console's two SH-2 processors and the 68000. Both deathmatch garages and the campaign share one 64-byte save record in cartridge SRAM. The page says every name, table, shape and palette was written for this project and the cast was renamed for this build. The latest update is described as validated on emulator cores and awaiting a test on original hardware, after the developer reported that the previous build played well on a real 32X.

“yes it is! Inspired by Armored Core with original assets and coding”Verification notes: Credit, AI disclosure, features and technical details from the itch.io page (published 19 Oct 2026 08:11 UTC, updated 12:07 UTC the same day) and the README downloaded from it. The page says “Skill for Claude” without naming a model, so the tool is recorded as Claude. Language: the README lists C source files. Originality: the page says the game is inspired by the structure of Armored Core (home base wheel, modular garage, contract economy, debt) and contains no code, data or art from it; asked in the comments by BrewOtaku whether it is an original game, the developer replied “yes it is! Inspired by Armored Core with original assets and coding”. Genre and design inspiration only, so no IP notice is attached; the “Now Loading...” screen is described as a tribute to an unnamed PS1 game. The rating was observed on the itch.io page on 4 Nov 2026 (UTC). No source code repository is linked. The ROM was not run.
