About Last Ember
A gothic survivors-like in pixel art, with meta progression between runs. The sun is gone and your torch is not a weapon: it is your light, your timer and your life, and it burns down every second. Enemies drop the fuel that keeps it alive, and the more fuel you carry, the hotter it burns, which means a bigger light but more monsters crawling out of the dark. Your weapons fire on their own but only find targets inside the light, monsters are stronger in the dark, and if the torch goes out you lose health until you find fuel again. Heat rises in levels from 0 to V. On each level-up you draw one of three tarot cards (15 weapons and stacking buffs), you can buy chests for relics and cursed items, and night events such as Blood Moon, Grave Fog and The Hunter change the run. Survive until the timer runs out to win; win or lose, you keep your embers, and embers and ash buy nodes in a 49-node skill tree. The developer, Milchinien, says design and direction are their own and that all code, all pixel art and all sound were written with Claude in Claude Code. Free in the browser on itch.io, best on a desktop with a keyboard; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe “How AI was used” section of the itch.io page says design and direction are by milchinien and that all code, all pixel art and all sound were written with Claude (Anthropic) in Claude Code. Every sprite is drawn by code, and every sound and the music drone are synthesized live in the browser with Web Audio, with no external art or audio files. The developer chose the art style, made the design decisions and playtested: “the AI built it”. The jam submission names the model and front end: “I used Claude Opus 5.5 inside of T3 Code”.

Made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch). The developer chose the art style, made the design decisions and playtested; Claude in Claude Code wrote all the code and made all the pixel art and sound. Sprites are drawn by code and the sound and music drone are synthesized live with Web Audio, so there are no external art or audio files. The credits list three SIL Open Font License fonts (Jacquard 24, Pixelify Sans, Jersey 15), a skill-tree layout based on the developer's earlier game Dropfall, and a “Gothic Night” style from miwale.com/styles. The browser build is a single bundled JavaScript file drawing on a 2D canvas.

“All code, all pixel art and all sound were written with Claude (Anthropic) in Claude Code.”Verification notes: AI use from the “How AI was used” section of the itch.io page and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. The page says all code was written with Claude in Claude Code, so the AI code share is recorded as 100%; the jam answer adds the model (Claude Opus 5.5) and the T3 Code front end. The itch.io AI disclosure ticks Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text. Publication (28 Oct 2026, 14:04 UTC) and last update (28 Oct 2026, 23:37 UTC) from the itch.io page. Several other AI Browser Game Jam 5 entries are also called Last Ember (or The Last Ember) by other developers; this record covers only Milchinien's game. The developer's Keeper's Light was entered in the same jam. Team size is not stated. The bundled JavaScript makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026 (7 ratings so far), so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
