About Phoenix in Flames: A Fateful Misdressing
Phoenix in Flames: A Fateful Misdressing is a text adventure set in an alternate history of Tang-dynasty China (the Chinese store text calls it 架空历史). In the first year of the Shenlong era (705 AD), Zhang Jianzhi, Yuan Shuji and their allies launch the Shenlong Coup, force Empress Wu Zetian to abdicate and restore Crown Prince Li Xian to the throne, but the new reign brings conspiracies, assassinations, coups and mutinies instead of prosperity. You play a Jinwu Guard who used to patrol the streets and is swept into the intrigue, choosing between loyalty and betrayal, love and desire, cold calculation and kindness; the Chinese text says that, as a minor figure, you can sway history and even reach endings quite different from what really happened. Princess Taiping, Princess Anle and Shangguan Wan'er are listed as key characters. The game is in Early Access: the roadmap plans a 12-chapter main story spanning eight years, from 705 to 713 AD, and side stories of five or six chapters for each major character, with all major story updates expected by December 2026. The developer calls it a solo project and writes that the script is entirely their own, while AI was used for a significant portion of the art and coding; the Steam AI disclosure says the art assets and code were all generated by AI. No tool is named. The developer adds that AI keeps overheads low, that this is not their first game, and invites anyone with copyright concerns about the generated content to get in touch. Steam lists mild gore and small amounts of suggestive or provocative language. US$4.99 in Early Access on Steam for Windows since 18 Feb 2026, in Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese and Traditional Chinese.

How it was built
Partially verifiedThe developer's Steam AI disclosure says, in full: “The game's art assets and code content were all generated by AI.” In the store description the developer writes that the script is their own original work, that AI was used “for a significant portion of the art and coding”, and that thanks to “the extensive use of AI for art and programming” overheads are minimal. No tool or model is named.
A solo project: the developer wrote the script, and per the Steam disclosure AI generated the art assets and the code (the store description says a significant portion of the art and coding). No engine, tool or workflow is described.

“The script is my own original creation, though I've utilized AI for a significant portion of the art and coding.”Verification notes: The AI claim rests on the developer-written AI disclosure on the game's Steam page (re-read on 4 Nov 2026), which says the art assets and code were all generated by AI, and on the developer's note in the store description, which says a significant portion of the art and coding was done with AI (see the conflict below); no tool is named, so the tool is undisclosed. Team size 1 rests on the developer calling it a solo project and saying AI let them make it as a lone developer. The historical figures and events are from Tang-dynasty history; the Chinese store text calls the setting alternate history (架空历史). The official Chinese titles 焚鸾:误红妆 and 焚鸞:誤紅妝 are the Steam store names in Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
