About DUNG: Azure Flame

A terminal-style roguelike RPG whose dungeons are drawn in coloured text characters, with turn-based combat, a 10-slot equipment system and gems. Dying costs your gear, which can be bought back with souls or put into building up the town. The developer says it was built in about two weeks by a non-engineer using Claude Code, and that Claude Code writes the code. It is sold as a Windows download on itch.io for $2 or more.

How it was built

Partially verified

The itch.io page (in Japanese) says a non-engineer made the game with Claude Code in two weeks, and itch.io's AI disclosure lists Code, Graphics and Text. The launch devlog says it was built entirely with Claude Code, and the developer's dev.to post says "Claude Code writes the code" while the developer supplies the vision and feedback.

Development approach

A self-described non-engineer who says they cannot write code directed Claude Code, giving it the vision and feedback. The launch devlog describes a codebase of more than 15,000 lines of Python; the itch.io download is a Windows .exe.

“Claude Code writes the code. But it doesn't know what makes a game fun.”
— yurukusa, I Made $2: A Non-Engineer's First Game Sale, Built Entirely with AI

Verification notes: Claude Code use from the developer's itch.io page (Japanese text plus the AI disclosure), the launch devlog and the developer's dev.to post. The itch.io listing is titled "Azure Flame Dungeon"; the game and description use "DUNG: Azure Flame". No publish date is shown: the earliest devlog is dated 7 Feb 2026, the dev.to post about the first sale shows Feb 9 with no year (2026 inferred from the author joining dev.to on 9 Feb 2026; edited Aug 12) and the "Azure Flame is live!" devlog 10 Feb 2026. The dev.to post gives one-day stats (1 payment, $2); these are not recorded as sales totals. A devlog titled "How This Game Was Built Entirely by AI" says the AI writes 100% of the code, but it mostly discusses the developer's later Godot game Spell Cascade, so no code share is recorded for this game. The launch devlog mentions an AI Browser Game Jam submission; this was not checked on a jam page. The itch.io rating (1 rating) is too thin to record.
