About Kansō

A relaxing 3D browser game about bonsai. You raise a tree over time, pinch buds, prune branches and wire them into shape, decorate the scene, and take photos of the result to share. Trees grow by species and change with the seasons. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of the code to be written by AI, and won Glif's “Most Zen” special award. In the official submission the entrant, credited in the game as skelly (@mrsukeruton), lists Codex, the models GPT 5.5 and Opus 4.7, and the music tool Suno. The site's changelog runs up to version 1.0, so the game has kept growing since the jam. It is not related to the 2022 Steam game Kanso.

How it was built

Partially verified
CodexPrimary

In the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists “Codex, GPT 5.5, Opus 4.7, Suno” as the tools and answers Yes to the AI-written field. GPT 5.5 and Opus 4.7 are AI models and Suno is a music generator; the submission does not say which model wrote which part of the code, or whether Opus 4.7 was used through Codex or another tool.

Supporting evidence
Development approach

Built quickly for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 on Three.js: the entrant says they found out about the jam a week before submitting and wanted to make something that brings people joy. The site's changelog lists many later updates (pruning and wiring modes, care and time, shared gardens, photos, sound settings) up to version 1.0.

“Just for fun to see if I could build something in the time crunch (I found out about the gamejam a week ago).”
— skelly (mrsukeruton), Vibe Jam 2026 games data (entrant submissions, final rank, awards)

Verification notes: Tools, engine and the one-week remark from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (listed there as “Kanso”); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. Award and final rank (9) from the official data and the organizer's winners post of 17 Jun 2026. The game's own site uses the title “Kansō” and credits skelly, linking x.com/mrsukeruton. Opus 4.7 is recorded only in the usage text, because the submission names the model, not a Claude product. The site's changelog (versions up to 1.0) carries no dates, so the post-jam timeline is unknown, and the AI share of later updates is not stated. The jam page's widget counter showed 803 plays for kansogame.com on 3 Nov 2026 (observed; sessions, not players). Name clash: Steam app 1454650 “Kanso” (developer Dave Sapien, released 25 Jan 2022, a line-following game) is a different, unrelated game and is not merged here.

Development history

  1. Entered in the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 (submission date in the official games data); the jam required at least 90% AI-written code.

  2. Wins Glif's “Most Zen” special award, one of 12 special prizes the jam page lists at $1,000 each; final rank 9 in the official games data.

  3. After the jam (undated changelog)

The site's changelog reaches version 1.0 (“Bonsai 1.0”), with species-specific growth, seasonal foliage and a nursery for starting new trees.
