About One Rainy Night
One Rainy Night is a point-and-click mystery that its store page calls a love letter to Sierra's classic quest games. As Detective Cole you drive to the small town of Sleepy Falls to pick up your cat from your aunt, and find every resident gone, the phones dead and the only bridge flooded, while the aerosol factory on the hill keeps running. Over four acts and 26 scenes you question the survivors you find, combine clues and solve more than 25 puzzles of 14 kinds, from lock-picking and pipe routing to radio tuning. Puzzles get gentler after failed attempts, a hint system is built in, an air meter drains in hazardous areas, and there are three endings. The art is retro VGA-style pixel art. The story was written by a commissioned freelance writer, Ben M Stroud. The game's Steam AI disclosure says Claude by Anthropic assisted the developer with the source code, the dialogue and descriptive text, and the procedural code that draws the art and composes the music and sound effects, all directed and reviewed by the developer; no AI content is generated during play. The developer, Werner Viljoen, runs the one-person studio Rogue Dog Indie. A paid game on Steam for Windows and Linux, released 23 Jul 2026.

How it was built
Partially verifiedThe game's Steam AI disclosure says parts of the game were made with the assistance of generative AI, naming Claude by Anthropic, under the developer's direction and review: the source code, character dialogue and descriptive text, the procedural code that draws the art, and the procedural code that composes the music and sound effects. The underlying story is by a human writer, and the developer says every AI-assisted element was curated and tested. How much of the code AI wrote is not stated. The studio's website separately says every Rogue Dog game was built with Claude Code and Codex; that statement covers all of the studio's games and does not single out this one, and the game's own disclosure names only Claude, so Claude Code and Codex are not listed as this game's tools.
- DeveloperStudio website, note on One Rainy Night: repeats the Steam disclosure (AI assistance with source code, dialogue and text, and the procedural code for art and music; story by a human author) without naming a tool. — Rogue Dog Indie (Werner Viljoen)
- DeveloperStudio website, about all of its games: “Every Rogue Dog game was built with Claude Code and Codex, by one person.” Not specific to this game. — Rogue Dog Indie (Werner Viljoen)
One developer, per the studio's website, with the story commissioned from a freelance writer through Fiverr. Per the Steam disclosure, Claude assisted with the code, the dialogue and text, and the procedural code that generates the art and the music, with the developer directing, reviewing and testing the results. The site describes the studio's general method as using AI for much of the work while the judgement, design and testing stay human. The finished game is fixed and runs offline.

“Parts of this game were created with the assistance of generative AI (Claude by Anthropic), working under the direction and review of the developer.”Verification notes: The tool comes from the game's own Steam AI disclosure, which names Claude by Anthropic and lists source code first among the AI-assisted work; it uses “assistance” wording and gives no share. The studio website (roguedogindie.com, listed as the game's website on Steam and linking this store page) repeats that disclosure without naming a tool, and separately says every Rogue Dog game was built with Claude Code and Codex; because that is a studio-wide claim, it is recorded as context only. The site also sells paid guides on making games with AI, so the studio has a commercial interest in its AI claims. Solo development, the developer's name and the commissioned writer (Ben M Stroud, through Fiverr) from the studio website. Release date, price, platforms and languages from the Steam store API. The store page showed no user reviews on 3 Nov 2026, so no review figures are recorded. Steam app ID 1530190 is much older than the 2026 release; when the store page was first created was not checked.

- Which AI tools
- The game's Steam disclosure names Claude by Anthropic and says it assisted with parts of the game, including the source code. The studio website says every Rogue Dog game was built with Claude Code and Codex. The website statement covers all of the studio's games, so only Claude, as named in this game's disclosure, is recorded. (Steam, Rogue Dog Indie (Werner Viljoen))
