About Candy Heist
A turn-based stealth puzzle set on twelve Halloween porches. On each one you collect every candy bowl and make it back to the gate without being caught: you sneak past the homeowners, send wind-up toy spiders to draw them away, and freeze inside your ghost costume when one looks your way. The first porches are a gentle introduction; later ones combine patrols, noisy leaves, planters and a limited number of decoys. Nothing moves while you think, any move can be undone (even after you are caught), and each porch has a target move count to chase once you have escaped. The developer, nyxalium, credits OpenAI Codex with the game code, the procedural Canvas artwork, the level design and the iteration, and says the game was built from scratch on 26 Oct 2026 during the jam; the background music was made with Suno. Free in the browser on itch.io, with keyboard, mouse and touch controls; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission credits OpenAI Codex with the game code, the procedural Canvas artwork, the level design and the iteration, in TypeScript with Canvas 2D, Web Audio, Vite and tsc-rs. The entrant says the game was built from scratch on 26 Oct 2026 during the jam, and that all twelve levels have solver-verified solutions and were checked in the browser for controls, undo, saved progress and the mobile layout. The itch.io page repeats that Codex was used for coding and iteration and that the art is drawn procedurally in code.
- Developeritch.io page, “Tools used”: “OpenAI Codex for coding and iteration; TypeScript, Canvas 2D, Web Audio, Vite and tsc-rs. Art is drawn procedurally in code.” — itch.io
Built in one day (26 Oct 2026) for AI Browser Game Jam 5, per the entrant. Codex wrote the TypeScript game code and drew the art procedurally on a Canvas 2D; the project is bundled with Vite. The instrumental background music was generated with Suno v6 and ships with the game; the short sound effects are synthesized in Web Audio. Every one of the twelve levels has a solution checked by a solver, and the controls, undo, saved progress and mobile layout were checked in the browser.

“OpenAI Codex for game code, procedural Canvas artwork, level design and iteration.”Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page and the “Tools used” section of the itch.io page, both re-read on 4 Nov 2026. Both credit OpenAI Codex with the code; neither gives a share, so no AI code share is recorded. The itch.io AI disclosure ticks Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text. Suno made the background music before release; it is a music file, not AI running during play. Publication and last update (both 26 Oct 2026, 16:52 UTC) from the itch.io page. The page also lists the game as a submission to two other jams (All Tools Allowed #3 — A Critics Arcade AI Game Jam, and Megamitts' Halloween Hijinks 2026) and shows a “Theme: TRICK” note, which is not the AI Browser Game Jam 5 theme (Torch). Team size is not stated. The game's JavaScript bundle makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 4 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
