About Pixel Civilization
A god-game sandbox in pixel art that runs in the browser. You place people on the map one at a time, choosing a tribe colour, and then the simulation largely runs itself: people gather, farm, build huts, farms and lumber camps, have children, age and die, and villages spread, trade, research technologies and go to war. Tribes advance through the Stone, Bronze, Iron, Medieval, Renaissance and Industrial eras, build ports, sail to new islands and launch sea raids; biomes, seasons, wildlife and fire react to what you do. From the Powers tab you can drop Lightning, a Meteor, Grow Forest, Rain, Plague or Inspire on the map, the speed buttons run from pause to 100x, and the Culture tab shows each tribe's era, technologies and a world history. World size ranges from Small to Huge, and the game plays on phones (in landscape), tablets and desktops. The developer, Logan Oster (Goober Games), says it was made with the Hark AI agent: the jam submission credits Hark with the design, all of the code, the pixel graphics (drawn in code) and simulation testing, and the itch.io page says the code, art, music and sound effects (synthesized in code) and in-game text are AI-generated, with no third-party assets. It was made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch; every civilization starts from one campfire) and also entered in Game Gauntlet's SIM Jam, and it is free to play in the browser on itch.io.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe jam submission credits the Hark AI agent with the design, all of the code, the procedurally drawn pixel graphics and simulation testing, with no external art or audio assets. The itch.io page says the game uses AI-generated code, art (pixel art drawn in code and the cover image), music and sound effects (synthesized in code) and in-game text, and that it was made with Hark and directed by Logan Oster. Hark is not a tool we track, and the sources do not say which model it runs on.
- Developeritch.io page, AI disclosure: “This game uses AI-generated content: code, art (in-code pixel art and the cover image), music and sound effects (synthesized in code), and in-game text. Made with Hark (AI), directed by Logan Oster.” — itch.io
- OfficialJam rules: development must be heavily AI-assisted, with the majority of the game AI-generated. — itch.io (Focaccai)
Logan Oster directed the Hark AI agent, which the developer credits with the design, all of the code, the pixel graphics (drawn procedurally in code) and testing the simulation; music and sound effects are synthesized in code and the in-game text is AI-generated. The page lists no third-party assets. The web build is a single HTML file of JavaScript drawing to a 2D canvas; no game library was identified in it.

“Hark AI agent: design, all code, procedurally drawn pixel graphics, and simulation testing.”Verification notes: Gameplay, controls and AI use from the developer's itch.io page (published 25 Oct 2026, 21:27 UTC; updated 2 Nov 2026, 23:55 UTC; status Released; HTML5) and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. Hark is recorded under an undisclosed tool because it is not in our tool list; the sources do not say which model it uses. The human director, Logan Oster (Goober Games), is named on the page. The sources say Hark wrote all of the code but give no percentage, so no AI code share is recorded. The page lists the eras as six (Stone to Industrial), while the jam write-up at the top of the page says tribes go through 8 eras; both are shown under conflicts. The same itch.io page is also entered in Game Gauntlet's SIM Jam, whose submission page lists the developer's earlier games as Pixel Evolution and Legacy. AI Browser Game Jam 5 voting was still in progress on 5 Nov 2026 (it ends on 7 Nov, 04:00 UTC) and SIM Jam rating runs from 5 to 10 Nov, so no placement is recorded. On 5 Nov the AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page showed 7 jam ratings (observed; jam votes, not players or reviews, so not recorded as a metric). The web build was checked for calls to AI services and none were found. Team size and location are not stated. itch.io shows no public rating and no download count. We did not play the game.
