About Sky Critters
A 3D drone shooter with tower-defence rules, played in the browser. Your base sits at the heart of a city, and waves of critters swarm in from all directions to destroy it. You fly a drone with the mouse and WASD keys, climbing and descending and boosting, and switch between weapons such as a rapid-fire automatic, a close-range spread gun that fires six pellets per shot and an arcing explosive launcher. Shooting critters earns coins; after a wave you land on the pad to recharge and spend them on upgrades for speed, armour, signal range (how far you can fly from the base), camera feed quality, ammo capacity and recharge rates. Scores go to a leaderboard and can be shared as an image card, and other players can join a lobby for multiplayer games. The game has its own theme song. The entrant pitches it as “Fly a drone, shoot critters, earn coins, upgrade your gear, defend your base.” It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Cursor as the tool. It finished 140th of 945 entries. Free in the browser on the developer's own domain.
How it was built

“Fly a drone, shoot critters, earn coins, upgrade your gear, defend your base.”Verification notes: Tool (Cursor), engine (ThreeJS), genre (Tower Defence), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (Yes), mobile (Yes) and portal (Yes) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 14 Apr 2026, 09:52 UTC; final rank 140 of 945 entries, no award), re-read on 4 Nov 2026; rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. Developer: the jam data gives the X handle jasperdeboer, whose profile's display name is Jasper de Boer; the game's main menu credits “@jasperdeboer” with a link to that profile. Neither the X profile nor the developer's site ja.sperdeboer.nl mentions the game. Team size is not stated, and the X profile's location is not recorded. The entrant's inspiration answer is only “Jody Bernal” (the name of a Dutch singer), with no explanation; the game's music is labelled only “Sky Critters theme song”, so no connection is recorded. Gameplay, controls, weapons and upgrades come from text in the game's script; the game was not played. The script also contains level and enemy editing tools, which are not presented as player features. The game's code was checked for calls to AI services and none were found. The jam page's widget counters showed 778 plays and 40 portal transfers for skycritters.io on 4 Nov 2026 (observed; plays are sessions, not players or downloads, so neither is recorded as a metric). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 14 Apr 2026.
