About WHEELCHAIR D

WHEELCHAIR D is a racing game with no steering wheel and no throttle: you drive an everyday hospital wheelchair, and each wheel has its own lever. Push both to go straight, ease off one side to turn toward it, and pull one back to spin on the spot. On a keyboard, F and V (or A and Z) push the left wheel forward and back and J and N (or K and M) the right one; on a touch screen there is a lever on each edge. There are 31 courses, from banked ovals and technical circuits to a bridge out over the sea, forest passes and point-to-point downhill runs, and three modes: time trial against your best-lap ghost, where a world record shows up as a glowing line on the track for every player; battle against three rivals, where wins raise your star rating and unlock rain and dirt races; and a practice plaza for learning two-wheel steering. You choose from 14 riders, and there are no items or boosts. The developer, office-canard, says the idea came from about three weeks in hospital in August 2026, the first time they used a wheelchair, and that they built the game with Claude: they described how a real wheelchair feels to push, Claude wrote the code, and most of the developer's own time went into driving it and saying what felt wrong. Free in the browser on itch.io and on the App Store; a Google Play version is linked as well.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/aigamedev (2 Nov 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “I built it with Claude. I described how a real wheelchair feels to push, and Claude wrote the code.” Most of the developer's own time went into driving it over and over and saying what felt wrong; the idea and the feel came from the hospital stay, and “The code came from Claude.” The post does not say which Claude product or model was used. The itch.io page's AI disclosure ticks AI Assisted, Code, Graphics and Text.

Development approach

Per the developer, Claude wrote the code from the developer's descriptions of how a real wheelchair feels, while the developer test-drove the builds and said what felt wrong. A comment at the top of the browser build's index.html says the game moved from Canvas 2D to three.js on 14 Sep 2026: the 3D scene uses three.js r128, while the HUD, the levers and the menus are still drawn on a 2D canvas carried over from the earlier version. The App Store description says every world record is checked by replaying the player's exact inputs, and that no account is needed to play or set records.

Verification notes: The claim that Claude wrote the code comes from the developer's post on r/aigamedev (2 Nov 2026, 05:39 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive because reddit.com did not answer our checks; the post is by u/office-canard, the same name as the itch.io account, and links the itch.io, App Store and Google Play pages. Modes, courses, riders and controls come from the itch.io page (published 12 Oct 2026, 03:04 UTC; updated 30 Oct 2026) and the App Store description; the itch.io rating of 5.0 rests on 1 rating. App Store data (US storefront, Apple lookup, 4 Nov 2026): seller FIT NEST, K.K., released 25 Oct 2026, version 1.0.1 of 26 Oct 2026, free, rated 4+, English only, no ratings yet. Google Play (observed 4 Nov 2026) showed the app by office-canard games, rated 3+, “Contains ads” and “10+” downloads; Google Play is not one of our platforms, so this is not recorded as a metric. The hospital stay (3–21 Aug 2026, after a cardiac arrest) is from the developer's itch.io devlog of 26 Oct 2026, which tells how the game grew from moving a hospital wheelchair by hand. The engine comes from a comment in the browser build's index.html. The post's “23 small games” were not checked. The developer's location is not stated. Nothing in the sources describes AI used during play. The game was not played.
