About Wickdeep

A one-button idle and incremental game about carrying a torch down into the dark. You tap to fan the flame, and every spark of light is both your health and your only currency. Deeper embers are richer, but the cold eats away at your flame, and light spent on upgrades (Wick, Oil, Hood, Ward and Stride) dims you a little each time. Eyes gather at the edge of your glow and you tap them to scare them off; you can also steer, and the descent passes through named depths such as The Mouth, Drip Caves, The Hollows and The Frostroot towards the Cinder Core, the ending. Rekindling starts over with Cinders that make every later flame burn brighter. The torch smoulders while you are away, progress saves automatically and a calm mode removes the flicker. Ennygames says the design, code, balancing and procedural graphics were generated with an AI coding assistant it calls Grok Bot, directed by Enoch, and that the soundtrack came from an AI music agent. Free to play in the browser on itch.io, on phone or desktop with one thumb; a name-your-own-price download adds a supporter pack. It was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.

How it was built

Partially verified

The itch.io page says the design, code, balancing and procedural graphics were generated with an AI coding assistant, named as Grok Bot, directed by Enoch; Grok Bot is not a tool we track, and the page does not say which product or model it is. The jam submission's AI Tools Used answer adds that Grok Bot wrote all of the code, as a single HTML5 Canvas file, and that Enoch directed and playtested the game. The sound effects are procedural Web Audio and the soundtrack was made by an AI music agent that is not named; the page says no third-party assets are used.

  • DeveloperAI Browser Game Jam 5 submission, AI Tools Used: “AI coding assistant (Grok Bot) for game design, all code (single-file HTML5 Canvas), balancing and procedural visuals; an AI music agent for the soundtrack.” — itch.io (AI Browser Game Jam 5, hosted by Focaccai)
Development approach

Made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch). Grok Bot, an AI coding assistant, generated the design, all of the code (a single HTML5 Canvas file), the balancing and the procedural graphics under Enoch's direction, and Enoch playtested. The sound effects are procedural Web Audio and the soundtrack came from an AI music agent; no third-party assets are used. The developer's roadmap dates the core loop and the descent with its eight zones to 20 Oct 2026 and a balance pass and a save-erase fix to 21–26 Oct; version 1.2 (22 Oct), released while the jam was still running, changed only the save-erase button.

Verification notes: AI use from the AI usage note on the itch.io page and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. Both credit the code to an AI coding assistant called Grok Bot; it is recorded as undisclosed because Grok Bot is not a tool we track and neither source says which product or model it is. The jam answer says “all code”; no percentage is given, so no AI code share is recorded. Features, upgrades and depths from the itch.io page; the development stages and the v1.2 fix from the devlog post of 22 Oct 2026 (10:01 UTC). Published 20 Oct 2026 (15:34 UTC); last updated 26 Oct 2026. The page names Enoch as director and uses “we”, so team size is not recorded. The itch.io rating (2.67 average from 3 ratings, displayed as 2.7) was observed on 5 Nov 2026. The soundtrack was made before release; the game's code was checked for calls to AI services and none were found. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026 (it closes on 7 Nov), so no placement is recorded; the submission page showed 3 jam ratings (jam votes, not recorded as a metric). The game was not played.

Development history

  1. Core loop and descent finished, per the developer's roadmap; published on itch.io (15:34 UTC) and submitted to AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch).

  2. Version 1.2 fixes the “Erase save” button; balance, zones, music and the ending are unchanged, and the developer plans only safe bug fixes until jam voting ends.

  3. AI Browser Game Jam 5 submissions close; voting was still in progress on 5 Nov 2026.
