The title GPTris echoes the Tetris name, and the game drops tetromino pieces into a playfield. The page does not mention Tetris and describes its own rules (building target shapes instead of clearing lines). No source shows a licence or any connection to The Tetris Company. (itch.io)

About GPTris

GPTris is a falling-block puzzle game written in QuickBASIC. Instead of clearing full lines, you build the tetromino shown under TARGET, with the next targets listed below it; the queue holds every normal tetromino in every rotation, with squares appearing four times as often as a normal orientation and each straight-bar orientation twice as often. Clearing a target is worth 100 points, several targets at once multiply the award, and a target that already exists on the board after the queue advances clears as a combo, doubling the award at each level of the chain. Some falling pieces have a gray half: a mixed match scores normally but leaves its gray blocks behind, while a target made entirely of gray blocks clears completely; the chance of a gray half starts at 5 percent and rises with every landed piece to a maximum of 75 percent. The three best scores are saved to a file. The developer, benamas, says they decided to vibe-code the game on a Wednesday evening, that the game design was theirs but GPT 5.4 Sol wrote every line of the code, and that GPT also wrote the rest of the README. Free on itch.io as a Windows executable compiled with QB64, with the QuickBASIC source under the Unlicense.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer says the game design was theirs but “GPT 5.4 Sol wrote every line of the code”, and that they enjoyed breaking the project into segments without having to write any code themselves; GPT also wrote the rest of the README. The page names only the model, not the app it was used through (for example ChatGPT or Codex), so the tool is recorded as undisclosed. The itch.io AI disclosure ticks AI Assisted, Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text.

Development approach

Designed by the developer and coded by GPT 5.4 Sol in segments, per the developer, with no hand-written code. The single source file GPTRIS.BAS runs in QuickBASIC or QBasic, can be compiled into a DOS executable, and also builds in QB64, which was used for the Windows release; the README gives a QB64 setting for a resizable pixel-art window. High scores are kept in a GPTRIS.HI file.

Verification notes: AI use, rules, files and licence come from the itch.io page, whose release date is 10 Sep 2026 (02:00 UTC). The AI code share of 100% is the developer's statement that GPT 5.4 Sol wrote every line of the code. The developer names a model, not a product, so the tool is recorded as undisclosed rather than ChatGPT or Codex. The page tags the game Textless, colour-blind friendly and high-contrast; the README is in English. The title echoes the Tetris name (see the IP notice). The executable was not run. Team size and location are not stated.
