About HanGrid
A small idle (incremental) game in the browser. You buy Chinese-character components from a shop and place them on a 5×5 board, where they earn money every tick; when neighbouring components form a valid character, they level up and earn more. Money unlocks more shop slots and board cells. Version 0.3.0 added more than 1,500 recipes for over 1,700 character combinations, a tutorial, highlighting of what a selected component can form and spoken pronunciation. The developer, chunq, who also made the Steam game WordJoy, says the first version was vibe-coded in one afternoon with Claude Code using DeepSeek v4 Flash as the model, for about 80 million tokens (about 4 yuan); ChatGPT was used to plan the gameplay, and DeepSeek wrote the code. The developer calls it a prototype; its Full Version button links to WordJoy on Steam, to which, the developer says, the idle gameplay was later added. Free on the developer's website, in English with a switch to Simplified Chinese.
How it was built
VerifiedThe developer's blog post says the development tool was Claude Code with DeepSeek v4 Flash as the model: the Pro model was tried first but responded too slowly, thinking constantly even with thinking mode off. ChatGPT was used to plan the gameplay and details, the developer steered the actual direction, and DeepSeek wrote the code. For interface changes and bug fixes the developer used ASCII layout diagrams instead of screenshots. The first version took one afternoon and 80 million tokens, about 4 yuan. The developer had switched to DeepSeek because GPT, previously the developer's main coding model, had stopped producing working features. So Claude Code was the coding agent here, but the model writing the code was DeepSeek's, not a Claude model. No code share is given.
Vibe-coded in one afternoon with Claude Code driving DeepSeek v4 Flash, with ChatGPT used for planning and the developer setting direction; layout problems were communicated with ASCII diagrams. A single-page web game that loads its character and component data from CSV files. Version 0.3.0, a few days later, rebuilt the combination system and added a tutorial and pronunciation after feedback that the game was hard to understand.

“使用 ChatGPT 来规划游戏的玩法与细节,我来把握实际的开发方向,DeepSeek 负责具体来写代码。”Verification notes: Tools, model, cost and build time come from the developer's own blog post (19 May 2026), which links the game on the developer's site; the 0.3.0 changes from the developer's V2EX post of 25 May 2026, whose supplement of 29 May says the idle gameplay has been added to WordJoy. The code was written by DeepSeek v4 Flash running inside Claude Code; no Claude model is named. We opened the game page: it is titled HanGrid, uses a 5×5 board, opens in English with a switch to Simplified Chinese, and its Full Version button links to WordJoy on Steam. The developer calls it a prototype; it is kept as its own record because its gameplay (idle placement) and tools differ from WordJoy's. The posts are in the first person and name no other contributors, but no source states the team size. The page loads a visitor counter (GoatCounter); no visitor or player numbers are published. The V2EX post's view count is not recorded.
