About ソファーがある。
ソファーがある。 (There Is a Sofa.) is a free, short first-person walk for the browser, about ten minutes long. Yellow wallpapered rooms with damp carpet go on in every direction under humming, sometimes flickering fluorescent lights, and somewhere there is a single sofa; sit on it and something happens. The README does not say what to do: you walk, find it and sit, across four places, among them a hall of pillars without walls, a flooded room where you follow distant music, and darkness lit by a single tube. Each place has 576 fluorescent panels whose wall-blocked light is computed in the browser, so any of them can flicker or go out on its own. Headphones are recommended. It plays with keyboard and mouse, a gamepad (with button icons that switch automatically) or touch, in Japanese or English. The developer, たぬ (tanuu5), calls it an interactive work inspired by the internet fiction known as “The Backrooms”, and the README says everything in it is original and unofficial, unrelated to any Backrooms wiki, Kane Parsons' video series or the A24 film. The README credits the concept to たぬ and the design and implementation of the places, triggers, visuals and sound to Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5, reasoning level MAX). Wallpaper, carpet, the sofa, the hum, footsteps and the music are all generated in code, with no image or audio files. Free on the developer's GitHub Pages site; the code is MIT-licensed.
How it was built
VerifiedThe README credits planning and direction to たぬ and development to Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5, reasoning level MAX): the concept is たぬ's, and Claude Code thought up and implemented the layout of the places, the triggers and the work on visuals and sound. Claude Code checked the look and flow by capturing real screens in headless Chrome on a real GPU and running automatic playthroughs from start to finish, tested gamepad display and controls with a virtual controller, and tuned sound by rendering it and measuring the volume.
- DeveloperDeveloper's note post of 8 Oct 2026: six browser works, ソファーがある。 fourth among them, were made with Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) between 3 and 7 Oct 2026; the post calls it a roughly ten-minute interactive work inspired by “The Backrooms”, using no existing images or settings. — note (たぬ / tank_ai)
Concept by one developer; Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5, MAX) designed and built the places, events, visuals and sound. Plain ES modules with three.js r186 bundled in the repository; a 96-metre wrap-around maze generated at random and connected so every room is reachable, a CPU-computed lightmap shared by floor, wall and ceiling shaders, planar reflections rippled by footsteps and drips, and Web Audio for every sound. Post-processing adds bloom, ACES tone mapping, vignette, film grain and chromatic aberration, and the resolution drops only when the frame rate stays low.

- Developer's note post on six works made in five days (Japanese)
Verification notes: AI use, the places, controls, languages, the licence (MIT), the non-affiliation statement and the release date (5 Oct 2026, “公開” in the README's update history) come from the developer's repository README, read through raw.githubusercontent.com on 6 Nov 2026; the README links the play address, which loaded that day. The note post of 8 Oct 2026 describes it as a roughly ten-minute interactive work and an original, unofficial piece inspired by “The Backrooms”; the README's English section calls it a game and a “short Backrooms-style walk”. It is a short walking piece with no fail state that we could find in the sources. The game's scripts contact no AI services. The repository's stars and commit history were not checked (github.com was not reachable from our checker). Team size and location are not stated.
