About Emberveil

A free single-player 2D party RPG for the browser. You lead a party of heroes across six acts of a dark-fantasy world; battles resolve automatically while the player uses “tap weapons” from a slot the party shares, and characters develop through talents, companions and loot with affixes and sets. The game's site lists 28 classes and 35 companions. An account is optional and only used for cloud saves. The developer, Radley Sustaire, a web developer and technical lead near Eugene, Oregon, names Diablo, Final Fantasy and FTL (for the map) as inspirations. The developer's portfolio says every game it lists, Emberveil included, was built by AI, and that the developer does not write the code or draw the art but designs the prompts and workflows; the same site lists Claude Code under AI-directed development among the developer's skills. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Claude Code as the tool. It finished 796th of 945 entries.

How it was built

Partially verified

The official Vibe Jam 2026 submission lists Claude Code as the tool. The developer's portfolio says of all the browser games it lists, Emberveil included: “Every game here was built by AI. I don't write the code or draw the art. I design the prompts and workflows, and AI builds the whole thing.” Elsewhere the same site lists “AI-directed development” with Claude Code among the developer's skills. No devlog describes how Emberveil itself was built.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperPortfolio, Video games section: “Every game here was built by AI. I don't write the code or draw the art.” Emberveil is listed in that section. — Radley Sustaire

  • OfficialJam rule 3: at least 90% of the code has to be written by AI. — Vibe Jam (Pieter Levels)
Development approach

Per the jam entry, vanilla JavaScript with a 2D canvas, HTML overlays for the interface, Vite as the build tool and GitHub Pages for deployment, with Claude Code named as the tool. The developer says the prompts and workflows are the developer's and AI builds the whole game, art included. Cloud saves use an optional games.radgh.com account.

Verification notes: AI use from the Video games section of the developer's portfolio (radgh.com), re-read on 5 Nov 2026; tool (Claude Code), engine, genre (Adventure, RPG), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No), mobile (Yes) and portal (No) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 30 Apr 2026, 18:27 UTC; final rank 796 of 945 entries, no award); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The portfolio's statement covers all of the games it lists and gives no percentage, so no AI share is recorded. Developer: the portfolio names Radley Sustaire, near Eugene, Oregon, and its handle radgh matches the jam entry; team size is not stated. Six acts, 28 classes and 35 companions are the game site's own description; the game was not played. The game site has been updated since the jam (a comment in its page says the jam widget was removed), so the current build may differ from the jam entry. The portfolio also lists “Emberveil 2” (“Emberveil rebuilt with 3D characters, voices and a living party”), a separate later build that is not covered by this record and was not checked. The game's code was checked for calls to AI services and none were found; its dialogue is written into the game. The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 30 Apr 2026.
