About Laser Dot

A short puzzle game in which you never act directly. You are Dock-bot's laser pointer: arrow keys, WASD or the mouse move the red dot, and the cat notices it, stalks it and pounces, so every goal, from knocking things off counters and getting into a box to riding the robot vacuum and pulling a plug, is done by leading the cat. Even the menus work this way: you choose START, a room or a sound level by leading the cat into a box, where it settles with the dot. The game pauses when you switch away and resumes when you move the dot. Everything is drawn and synthesised in code, so there are no image or audio files. The developer, Cocolito Collective, says Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) wrote all the TypeScript, including a hand-drawn “boiling ink” renderer, the Web Audio sounds and a headless Firefox test harness, while Claude in a Claude Project acted as producer and art director. Made for Jamference: AI Game Jam Hack 1, where it ranked 9th overall. Free in the browser on itch.io.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer's jam answer: “Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5), running on my PC, wrote all the TypeScript: the game, a hand-drawn "boiling ink" renderer, every sound as Web Audio synthesis, and a headless Firefox test harness.” The work went in 26 approved batches (briefs J1 to J26) with a shared handoff file. Every new automated check had to be shown failing on a deliberately broken copy of the code first (268 such “probes”), and a test fails the build if the game listens for any input other than movement. The cat's behaviour (notice, stalk, pounce, get bored) is classic game AI that Claude wrote and the developer tuned.

ClaudeSecondary

Per the same answer, Claude in a Claude Project acted as producer and art director: it turned the developer's ideas into written briefs (approved scope, defaults and tests), drew concept sheets as SVG over real screenshots of the built game, and checked every Claude Code report against its brief before the developer playtested.

Development approach

A one-week game for Jamference: AI Game Jam Hack 1, built by two Claude instances with the developer directing: Claude in a Claude Project wrote the briefs and concept sheets, and Claude Code wrote all the TypeScript and the automated tests. Everything is drawn and synthesised in code; the developer gives the whole game as a 150 KB bundle.

Verification notes: AI use from the developer's answer on the official jam submission page, re-read on 5 Nov 2026; the itch.io page names no tool and its AI disclosure ticks Code, Graphics and Sounds. The 100% AI code share reflects “wrote all the TypeScript”. The jam's own rule (“AI must be part of the build”) is not code-specific. The submission's team field reads “Cocolito Collective (cocolitocollective): solo developer”, so team size is recorded as one; the developer record (shared with Tidewick) keeps its type as before. Publication (9 Oct 2026, 03:54 UTC), English as the language, keyboard and mouse input and “Average session: A few minutes” from the itch.io page; the submission page said it was submitted 2 hours and 57 minutes before the 9 Oct, 07:00 UTC deadline. The page was updated on 1 Nov 2026 with a devlog titled “Laser Dot: Improve My Game Jam 47”, which was not opened. Jam results (13 ratings): 9th overall (4.000), 8th in Fun and Polish, 12th in Use of AI. No calls to AI services were found in the game's bundle. The game was not played.
