About Mow Meow

Mow Meow is a chill, deliberately odd multiplayer sandbox in which you play a stretchy, slightly broken cat whose one job is to mow catnip. The more catnip you gather, the more you level up and unlock fur colours, hats and boots, and the luckier you get; you can play alone or online with up to 20 friends or strangers in a borough, and mowing together earns a catnip bonus. Around the mowing there are quests, odd emails, NPCs voiced by the developer's friends (one wants to sell you a meditation album), springs, chests, secrets and a code system for cheats and silly modifications. The controls are low-gravity and wobbly on purpose. The game has a 2000s-style chat and a Winamp-like music player, the Nip Nip Player, for a 33-song soundtrack, and it can be played in a 640×480 window on the side. The developer started it as a 31-day challenge in January 2025. Their Steam AI disclosure credits the coding to Claude's Sonnet and Opus, and on Reddit they describe the game as all vibe-coded with Sonnet and Opus; animation is credited to anything.world, one soundtrack to Suno with the developer's lyrics, and the store video to Veo. US$0.99 in Early Access on Steam for Windows since 1 Apr 2025, in English; the official site plans the full release for 2027.

How it was built

ClaudePrimary

The developer's Steam AI disclosure lists “Coding: Claude's Sonnet & Opus” and says the same information is in the game's credits. On Reddit the developer calls the game “all vibecoded using sonnet & opus” (r/vibecoding, 10 Jul 2026), says it “was made mostly with Sonnet and Opus” (r/aigamedev, 7 Jul 2026) and that the June 2026 update was “coded using Sonnet and Opus” (r/aigamedev, 29 Jun 2026). No app or client is named (one post mentions Unity MCP), and no code share is given.

Supporting evidence
  • Developerr/vibecoding (10 Jul 2026): “Made a multiplayer game where you're a cat mowing catnip, all vibecoded using sonnet & opus”. — Reddit (u/sorryaboutyourcats)
  • Developerr/aigamedev (7 Jul 2026): “Game was made mostly with Sonnet and Opus, and the music from the trailer is from Suno.” — Reddit (u/sorryaboutyourcats)
  • Developerr/aigamedev (29 Jun 2026): the quests, emails, achievement list and cheat-code update was “coded using Sonnet and Opus”. — Reddit (u/sorryaboutyourcats)
GeminiSecondary

In r/aigamedev (5 Mar 2026) the developer says the in-game Nip Nip Player, a Winamp-like music player, was made using Gemini and Sonnet with Unity MCP: it started with a request to make a music player, and the developer then went back and forth on the interface and asked for the visualizer and the album window. No Gemini model or app is named.

Development approach

A Unity game (per the press kit) by one developer, who credits the coding to Claude Sonnet and Opus and describes the game on Reddit as vibe-coded with them; one feature, the Nip Nip Player, was made with Gemini and Sonnet through Unity MCP. It began as a 31-day challenge in January 2025, worked on daily to have something playable by the end of the month, and entered Early Access in April 2025 in what the developer called an “Early Early Early Alpha” state; updates since then added hats, shoes, a shop, smooth mowing, voice acting, new areas, 22 more songs, quests and emails. Other credits in the Steam disclosure: textures, UI and achievement art made in Photoshop, animation with anything.world, a soundtrack made with Suno with lyrics by the developer, and the store video generated with Veo and edited in Premiere Pro. The store page says the 33-song soundtrack is original and the site credits its songs to various artists; NPC voices are by the developer's friends.

Verification notes: The AI claim rests on the developer-written AI disclosure on the game's Steam page (read on 4 Nov 2026), which credits the coding to “Claude's Sonnet & Opus”, and on the developer's Reddit posts (read through the Arctic Shift archive on 4 Nov 2026): “all vibecoded using sonnet & opus” (r/vibecoding) and “made mostly with Sonnet and Opus” (r/aigamedev). The Reddit account is the one linked from the game's press kit. The two Reddit phrasings differ (“all” and “mostly”), and the second may refer to the whole game including assets, so no code share is recorded. The tool is recorded as Claude because the developer names the models, not an app. Team size, base (New York) and engine (Unity) from the press kit at presskit.mowmeow.net; the January 2025 challenge from the launch announcement; the planned 2027 full release from mowmeow.net; the March 2026 areas, songs, shoes and chests, the June 2026 quests and emails and the July 2026 multiplayer catnip bonus from the developer's Steam announcements. Release date, Early Access status, price, platform and language (English, with full audio) from the Steam store API; the review figures from the store page on 4 Nov 2026. The system requirements on the store page are written as jokes. A separate browser game by the same developer, ComfyCrawler, is not part of this record.
