About Regrowth

A short browser puzzle game about patience, planning and the unstoppable force of nature, as its page puts it. Vegetation spreads across the board by itself each cycle; before each run you place tools — a pickaxe that breaks walls, soil that boosts the spread for a cycle, and a spore that plants a dormant seed which wakes when vegetation dies against wither — then press Run and watch. Stone, walls, cobwebs, drought zones and wither stand in the way, and you have to reach every target tile before the cycles run out; if it does not work, you reset and think again. There are five levels. The developer describes the aim as a small strategy puzzle game in which each level is a problem with a specific solution, and calls it a playable prototype rather than a finished game. It was made for the Just Vibe It! Jam, an itch.io jam that encouraged AI use; the developer says Claude was used to write all the code and that the level design was entirely human-made. It placed 2nd overall of the four rated entries, 1st for Gameplay and joint 1st for Theme. Free to play in the browser on itch.io.

On the jam submission page the developer's AI-usage answer reads “Claude was used to write all the code, cover image created with Bing Image AI.” In a comment there the developer adds that the code and mechanics were “100% vibe coded with Claude as my collaborator. I directed, Claude executed.”, while the level design was 100% human-made. The itch.io page says Claude was used throughout development for game design, mechanics and code, and its AI disclosure reads AI Assisted. Claude Code is not named, and no model is given.

Supporting evidence
  • Developeritch.io page: “Claude was used throughout development: for game design, mechanics, and code.” AI disclosure: AI Assisted. — itch.io

Development approach

The developer says they directed and Claude wrote the code and mechanics, while the levels were designed by hand, which the developer calls the hardest part of the process. The cover image was made with Bing Image AI, per the submission. The game ships as a single self-contained HTML file.

Verification notes: Gameplay, tools, hazards, level count, the Prototype status and the AI disclosure from the itch.io page; AI usage answer, developer comment (dated 7 Apr 2026, 09:18 UTC on the page) and results from the jam submission page; jam details from the jam page. The Just Vibe It! Jam, hosted by Öooasis, ran from 27 Mar 2026, 19:00 UTC to 5 Apr 2026, 22:00 UTC, with voting until 12 Apr 2026, 18:00 UTC; it encouraged AI and had “AI usage” as a judging criterion, but had no rule on how much code AI had to write, so the evidence is the developer's own statements. The game was submitted 1 hour 46 minutes before the deadline, which puts it at about 20:14 UTC on 5 Apr 2026. Results: 2nd overall, #1 Theme (4.000, tied with Urban Eden), #1 Gameplay (3.333), #3 AI usage (3.000), #4 Graphics and Sounds (2.000), from 3 ratings; the results page says 9 entries were submitted and 4 were rated, while the jam page lists 4 submissions. No itch.io rating or publish date is shown on the game page. The game file is a single HTML page that loads only fonts and itch.io's own scripts; no calls to AI services were found. Same developer account as Rogue Memory and Under Neon Skies; no real name or location is given.
