About Solar Odyssey

Solar Odyssey is a free 3D space game and learning app for the browser. You fly your own starship around the Solar System, with the planets at their real positions for the current date and data from NASA's Planetary Fact Sheet, warping between targets or using autopilot, an overview map and a bridge view. Near any of 27 solid planets and moons you can take a lander down to a 360° surface view with its own sky, haze and terrain, and an update announced on 2 Nov 2026 adds the ORV-7 rover, driven over real elevation data for Gale crater on Mars and Monument Valley on Earth, with rock sampling for a collection book and weather such as Martian dust storms and methane rain on Titan. There are seven original ships, an EVA work robot for repair missions, a ship's log, quizzes and a visit stamp book for each world, a story mode, a telescope mode with real Hubble images, a sky of 9,096 stars from the Yale Bright Star Catalog, and an SF mode with space colonies, black holes and a railway among the stars. The README says it started as a learning toy for a child and keeps growing. It plays with keyboard and mouse or touch on PCs, phones and tablets, in Japanese or English, although some newer screens may still be in Japanese. The developer, Junzzy827, says all of it was written by Claude Opus 5.5 from conversation, without typing any code. The source is on GitHub.

In a post on r/threejs (31 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “All of it was written by Claude Opus 5.5 from conversation. I haven't typed any code.” A second post (2 Nov 2026) says the rover was modelled with a Python script in headless Blender and its code was then written by Claude Opus 5.5 from conversation. The developer does not say which Claude product was used.

Development approach

Written by Claude Opus 5.5 from conversation, per the developer. Built with Vite, TypeScript and React Three Fiber (three.js) and deployed to GitHub Pages by GitHub Actions, per the README. Ships and the rover are generated by Python scripts driving headless Blender, with 4K baked textures for the ships; the background music was written for the app and is synthesised by a Python script. Body data are rounded values from NASA's Planetary Fact Sheet, the starfield comes from the Yale Bright Star Catalog, and the rover terrain uses real elevation data where the developer could find it. The README says the app uses no names, logos, artwork or audio from any existing franchise.

Verification notes: AI use from the developer's posts on r/threejs by u/Loud-Current1641 (31 Oct 2026, 14:27 UTC, and 2 Nov 2026, 13:52 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive on 6 Nov 2026; both link the game and the repository. The 100% AI code share reflects “All of it was written by Claude Opus 5.5 from conversation. I haven't typed any code.” Features, controls, the tech stack, languages and the note on designs come from the repository README, read on 6 Nov 2026 through raw.githubusercontent.com; GitHub's API and repository page could not be reached from our environment, so the creation date, stars and licence were not checked, and no LICENSE file was found at the usual paths, so the game is not marked open source. The README calls it a free 3D web app that started as a learning toy; the posts call it a space game, and it has piloting, landing, rover driving and missions, so it is listed as a game. The game page's script contacts no AI services. No release date is given; the game was public by 31 Oct 2026. Team size is not stated. The game was not played.
