About Torch Topple

A short physics game in the browser that the developer describes as a physics take on daruma otoshi, the Japanese tower toy. You swipe across a stacked tower, with the mouse or a finger, to swing a small hammer. Hit a block cleanly and it flies out while the head on top drops into place; swing too slowly and you drag the tower with you, swing too wildly and it all comes down. Faster, flatter swipes hit more cleanly. Clear every block without letting the head fall and the next, taller tower is lit; a tap starts a new game, and M or the speaker button mutes the sound. The developer, CaCC-Lab, says the specification was written by Kiro, the tests were written first by Cursor and the code by Claude Code, with independent reviews by Codex, Devin, Cursor and Gemini and playtests by Grok Bot. The in-game art (background, blocks and torch) was generated with Gemini image generation via Antigravity and the cover with Codex's built-in OpenAI image generation, and the sound effects are synthesized in code with Web Audio. It was made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch) and is free to play in the browser on itch.io.

How it was built

Partially verified

The itch.io page and the jam submission both credit the code to Claude Code. It worked from a specification written by Kiro, an AI coding tool we do not track, and from tests that Cursor wrote first. Which model was used is not stated. Codex, Devin, Cursor and Gemini then reviewed the work independently, and Grok Bot playtested; Devin and Grok Bot are not tools we track.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperJam submission, AI Tools Used: “Kiro (spec), Cursor (tests written first, review), Claude Code (code), Codex, Devin and Gemini (independent reviews), Gemini image generation via Antigravity (in-game background, block and torch art), Codex's built-in OpenAI image generation (cover art), Grok Bot (playtests).” — itch.io (AI Browser Game Jam 5, hosted by Focaccai)
  • OfficialJam rules: development must be heavily AI-assisted, with the majority of the game AI-generated. — itch.io (Focaccai)
CursorSecondary

Named in the jam submission and on the itch.io page for writing the tests first, before the code, and for reviewing the work.

CodexSecondary

Named for an independent review of the work; the cover art was made with Codex's built-in OpenAI image generation. The sources do not say that Codex wrote any of the game's code.

GeminiSecondary

Named for an independent review of the work; the in-game background, block and torch art was generated with Gemini image generation via Google Antigravity. Which Gemini model was used is not stated, and the sources do not say that Gemini wrote any of the game's code.

Development approach

Kiro wrote the specification, Cursor wrote the tests first and Claude Code wrote the code; Codex, Devin, Cursor and Gemini reviewed it independently and Grok Bot playtested. The in-game art came from Gemini image generation via Antigravity and the cover from Codex's built-in OpenAI image generation; the sound effects are synthesized in code with Web Audio. The web build is JavaScript drawing to a 2D canvas, bundled into a single script; no game or physics library was identified in it.

Verification notes: Gameplay, controls and AI use from the developer's itch.io page (published 30 Oct 2026, 05:23 UTC; updated 30 Oct 2026, 15:31 UTC; status Released; HTML5) and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 4 Nov 2026. Same developer as Torch Duck Parade (same itch.io account, CaCC-Lab). Kiro, Antigravity, Devin and Grok Bot are not tools we track. Daruma otoshi is a traditional Japanese toy, named by the developer as the idea; no rights holder is involved, so no IP notice is recorded. In a reply to a comment on the submission page the developer said the fail check fires the moment the head tilts past a set angle, even if it would wobble back, and that a fix would go up after the jam; this was not checked in the game. The web build was checked for calls to AI services and none were found. The sources credit the code to Claude Code but give no share, so no AI code share is recorded. Submissions closed on 31 Oct 2026 and voting was still in progress on 4 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded. On 4 Nov the submission page showed 9 jam ratings (observed; jam votes, not players or reviews, so not recorded as a metric). Team size and location are not stated. itch.io shows no public rating and no download count. We did not play the game.
