About Competition
Competition is an online coaching game for track and field and cross country, set in a persistent world shared with other players: every rival coach is a real person. You start with $10,000, six walk-ons and a college you place on an abstract map of the United States, then recruit athletes, plan their training, enter them in meets and keep the books balanced. The game runs in real time: one game day is one real day, training and recruiting resolve overnight, and the cross-country, indoor and outdoor seasons follow the real calendar, each ending in a national championship. Recruits are scouted and bid on against other coaches. Each athlete has 50 hidden trainable stats and genetic limits, there are nearly 30 kinds of training session, and fatigue and injuries have to be managed. Meets cover 24 events and can be watched live, lane by lane, or as replays, and fees, travel, scholarships, staff and facilities have to fit the budget. Athletes have no gender, so everyone races everyone. The page says there are no ads and no in-app purchases; the game needs an internet connection and a free account. The developer, boltingsinewave, made a first version alone some time ago and says most of the code of the current online version has been vibe coded, working from about ten pages of design notes the developer wrote. A Windows download on itch.io; listed as in development.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn a post on r/godot titled “Valid use of AI???” (15 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “Most of all the code has been vibe coded. However, I made the initial version of this game entirely myself a while back.” Per the post, AI helped make the dedicated backend and the Godot frontend work together, the developer understands the overall structure, and the AI works from about ten pages of design notes the developer wrote in a Google Doc. The developer plans to make the art later. The AI tool is not named.

A Godot client with a dedicated backend that hosts the shared world, accounts and the scheduled meets. Per the developer, an earlier version was made entirely by hand; for the current online version most of the code was vibe coded with an unnamed AI tool working from about ten pages of design notes the developer wrote. The developer says they will make the art themselves later.

“Most of all the code has been vibe coded. However, I made the initial version of this game entirely myself a while back.”Verification notes: AI use from the developer's post on r/godot by u/Boltingsinewave (15 Oct 2026, 03:26 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive; game features, status (In development), platform (Windows), genre (Simulation, Sports) and AI disclosure from the itch.io page (published 12 Oct 2026, 02:50 UTC; updated 5 Nov 2026, 00:52 UTC; version 1.1.4), re-read on 5 Nov 2026. “Vibe coded” is the developer's wording; no tool or share is given, so the tool is recorded as undisclosed and no code share is recorded. Godot comes from the post (“frontend(godot)”). The game depends on the developer's own server for its shared world, so availability depends on that backend; the Windows build was not run. Rival coaches are other players, not AI. Team size and location are not stated. No rating is shown and itch.io shows no download count. The game was not played.
