About Damage Shogi
Damage Shogi turns shogi into a battle of hit points. Every piece has HP, Attack and Defense, so pieces no longer fall in one hit: attacks deal randomized damage, the attacked piece may strike back, and a piece is only defeated when its HP reaches zero. Promotion improves a piece's movement and its attack and defence. Each turn you take three actions instead of one, so you might move in, corner a piece and strike, or drop a piece, defend and wait for your moment. Damage variance, counter success rate, actions per turn and randomness on or off can all be changed, and each piece's HP, Attack and Defense can be edited individually. You can play four CPU levels (Weak, Normal, Strong and Expert, which the store says lies in wait just outside range and then strikes with a three-action burst) or friends online by invite or room code, with reconnection. Ichigeki Games later released Damage Xiangqi, whose store text calls it the studio's third game after Damage Shogi and Damage Chess. The developer's Steam AI disclosure says generative AI (Anthropic Claude) was used to write the game code. A paid Windows game on Steam, released 31 Jul 2026, in English and Japanese.

How it was built
Partially verifiedThe developer's Steam AI disclosure says generative AI (Anthropic Claude) was used during development to write game code, to create the background music (note data transcribed from a public-domain piece by Debussy, plus procedurally generated music) and to compose the store artwork from in-game assets. It says no content is generated by AI at runtime. It names Claude without a product and does not say how much of the code Claude wrote.
Not described beyond the Steam disclosure. Per the store page, the rules and every piece's stats are adjustable in the game, and online matches support friend invites, room codes and reconnection.

“Generative AI (Anthropic Claude) was used during development to write game code, to create the BGM (note data transcribed from a public-domain piece by Debussy and procedurally generated music), and to compose store artwork from in-game assets.”Verification notes: The AI claim rests on the developer-written AI disclosure on the game's Steam page (re-read on 4 Nov 2026), which uses the same wording as the disclosure on the studio's Damage Xiangqi and adds that the public-domain piece is by Debussy. It says Claude was used to write game code but gives no share, so the game is classed as AI-assisted rather than vibe-coded. The CPU opponents are ordinary game AI; the disclosure says nothing is generated by AI at runtime. The Japanese title ダメージ将棋 is from the Japanese store text; the order of the studio's games is from the Traditional Chinese store text of Damage Xiangqi. Release date, price, Windows only and the two languages from the Steam store API; the store page showed no user reviews on 4 Nov 2026, so no review figures are recorded. Team size and location are not stated.
