About Keep Scrolling, Keep The Flame

A comedy browser game about a tiny candle that lives on your scrolling. Keep a steady rhythm and it burns bright; stop for too long and it starves; scroll like a maniac and the friction burns it down. Meanwhile an endless parody social feed rolls past (a toaster asking for better working conditions, a cat that accidentally accepted a merger, crypto gurus, fishing-based financial advice, bots, pushy ads and hot takes about cereal), and you upvote the funny posts, delete the scams and decide what to do about everything in between, with a few seconds to read before the room starts to go dark. The algorithm keeps interfering with reverse scrolling, pop-up storms, a CAPTCHA, meme checkpoints, a low-battery mode, hot-take floods and surprise algorithm updates. You scroll with the mouse wheel, trackpad, click and drag or the keyboard, and judge posts with A and D or the buttons on any post; the settings cover difficulty, text size, high contrast, reduced screen shake, volume and a gentler alternative to the reverse-scroll event. The developer, dm9494, says every line of code was written by Claude in Claude Code, working from a design brief and UI mockup made with ChatGPT; Claude also wrote the 170 posts and the jokes, ChatGPT generated the meme pictures, avatars and candle mascot, and the background music was generated with Google's Gemini. Made in Godot 4.7 for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch); free in the browser on itch.io and listed as a prototype.

How it was built

Partially verified

The itch.io page says every line of code was written by Claude in Claude Code, working from a design brief and a UI mockup made with ChatGPT. Claude also wrote the 170 posts, the event jokes and the CAPTCHA sentences, matched each ChatGPT picture to the posts it fits, cleaned up the mascot's cut-out edge, wrote 64 automated tests and walked the game in a real browser, which is how it found that browsers could not use the computer's emoji, so the fonts now ship with the game. The rest of the interface (the browser window, the flame, the sign and the rhythm meter) is drawn in code. Which Claude model was used is not stated.

Supporting evidence
ChatGPTSecondary

Used to make the design brief and the UI mockup that Claude worked from, and to generate the meme pictures, the avatars and the candle mascot, per the itch.io page. The sources do not say that ChatGPT wrote any of the game's code.

GeminiSecondary

Generated the background theme music, the game's only audio file; every other sound is synthesized in code at start-up, per the itch.io page. Which Gemini model was used is not stated.

Development approach

Made in Godot 4.7 for AI Browser Game Jam 5. ChatGPT produced a design brief and a UI mockup, and Claude in Claude Code wrote all of the code from them, along with the 170 posts and the jokes; the browser-window interface, the flame, the sign and the rhythm meter are drawn in code, and the meme pictures, avatars and mascot are ChatGPT images. Sounds are synthesized in code at start-up, except the background music, which was generated with Gemini. Claude wrote 64 automated tests and tested the game in a real browser. The Noto Sans and Noto Color Emoji fonts (SIL Open Font License) ship with the game.

Verification notes: Gameplay, controls and AI use from the developer's itch.io page (published 22 Oct 2026, 00:50 UTC; updated 29 Oct 2026, 22:53 UTC; status Prototype; HTML5; genre Survival, Rhythm; made with Godot) and the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. “Every line” is the developer's wording; no percentage is given, so no AI code share is recorded. The feed is a parody of social media in general, with invented posts; no real platform, brand or person is named on the page, so no IP notice is recorded. The images and the music were made before release; the game's Godot data makes no calls to AI services. The page sets no language field; the page and posts are in English. Submissions closed on 31 Oct 2026 and voting runs until 7 Nov 2026 (04:00 UTC), so no placement is recorded. On 5 Nov the submission page showed 6 jam ratings (observed; jam votes, not players or reviews, so not recorded as a metric). The itch.io rating of 3.6 (5 ratings) is from the itch.io page; itch.io shows no download count. Team size is not stated. The game was not played.

Development history

  1. Published on itch.io (00:50 UTC) and submitted to AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch) 9 days and 2 hours before the deadline.

  2. AI Browser Game Jam 5 submissions close; voting was still in progress on 5 Nov 2026.
