About Perihelion

A minimalist one-button arcade game about slingshotting between planets. You circle a planet, and a tap sends you flying off in a straight line along your orbit's tangent: reach the next ring and you are caught, miss and you drift into the dark. Grazing a ring at its edge counts as a PERFECT capture, and chaining them builds a combo multiplier. Stars you collect unlock new comet trails (Ember, Aurora, Nebula and Prism), and moving planets and asteroid belts make the climb harder the further you go. Layouts are procedurally generated, so every run is different; runs last from 30 seconds to a few minutes. The developer, legendaryshirt, says Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code designed and wrote the entire game as a single HTML file, playtested it with a headless Playwright bot to tune the difficulty and rendered the cover and screenshots, and that it was built start to finish in under an hour. Free in the browser on itch.io, on desktop and mobile (Space, Enter, click or tap); it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.

How it was built

Partially verified

The AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission says Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code designed and wrote the entire game: vanilla JavaScript and Canvas 2D in a single HTML file, with synthesized WebAudio sound and no external assets. It also playtested the game with a headless Playwright bot to tune the difficulty, and rendered the cover and screenshots from the game's own renderer. The entrant says the game was built start to finish in under an hour.

Development approach

Made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 in under an hour, per the entrant. Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) designed the game and wrote it as one HTML file in vanilla JavaScript with Canvas 2D; the sound is synthesized with WebAudio and there are no external assets. Difficulty was tuned by having a headless Playwright bot play it, and the store cover and screenshots were rendered by the game's own renderer.

Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, re-read on 4 Nov 2026; the 100% AI code share reflects “designed and wrote the entire game”. The itch.io page itself carries only the itch.io “AI Assisted” disclosure and names no tool. The model name Claude Opus 5.5 is quoted as the entrant writes it. Publication (28 Oct 2026, 22:30 UTC), a launch devlog (22:31 UTC) and the last update (23:00 UTC) from the itch.io page, which files the game under Action with the tags Arcade, Casual and Endless; the devlog was not opened. The page links another game by the same developer, Wick (a one-button cave flyer), which was not checked. The developer writes “me” on the page but does not state a team size. The single-file build makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 4 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
