About Nobody Takes the Torch

A short 3D third-person comedy game about a torch relay that is not going well. You run each leg shielding your flame from street sprinklers, office fire drills, rain and the morning rush; water and wind drain the FLAME gauge fast, so you dodge them or shield the torch. If the flame goes out, a staff member relights it at the last checkpoint for a five-second penalty. When you reach the handoff point, the next runner is oversleeping, stuck in a meeting or has missed their stop, so the run goes on. The itch.io page lists four stages, from Hibari Shopping Street, Aozora Trading Co. and Marumaru Station at rush hour to Hibari International Airport, and each leg earns zero to three stars for time and relights, with best times saved per stage and for the full run. Most character lines are voiced in Japanese and English. The developer, dan-comorebi, says Claude was the main development partner: it wrote and debugged the C# gameplay code in Unity, built the stages and the ending through editor scripts, and created the UI, the Japanese and English localization and the star-rating system, while the 3D models, animations, sound effects and UI art are purchased Asset Store assets. Free in the browser on itch.io with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.

How it was built

The AI Tools Used answer on the jam submission calls Claude (Anthropic) the main development partner: it wrote and debugged the C# gameplay code in Unity, built the three stages and the ending through editor scripts, and created the UI (HUD, pause menu, results and credits), the Japanese and English localization, the sound-effect integration and the star rating and best-time system. It also operated the Unity editor to test the game and take screenshots, and helped with the title and the game page. The answer names no Claude model or product (chat or Claude Code) and gives no code share.

Development approach

A Unity WebGL game made for AI Browser Game Jam 5 (theme: Torch). Claude wrote and debugged the C# gameplay code, built the stages and the ending through Unity editor scripts, created the UI, localization, sound-effect integration and rating system, and operated the Unity editor for testing and screenshots, per the entrant. The background music (title, stages, clear jingle and ending) was made with Suno, and the Japanese and English character voice lines with DeepVoice Pro (AIKODEX). The developer says the concept, direction, art and asset choices, playtesting and balancing were their own, and that the 3D models, animations, sound effects and UI art are purchased Unity Asset Store assets, not AI-generated.

Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, re-read on 5 Nov 2026. The itch.io page itself has no AI statement and no itch.io AI disclosure. The answer says Claude wrote and debugged the C# gameplay code but gives no percentage, so no AI code share is recorded; how Claude operated the Unity editor is not described. Publication (25 Oct 2026, 12:43 UTC) and last update (31 Oct 2026, 01:29 UTC), the “Prototype” status, the Unity engine and the Japanese title from the itch.io page, which carries the full description in English and Japanese. The page lists four stages while the jam answer speaks of three stages and the ending (see conflicts). Languages from the page, which says the language follows the browser and can be switched from the Esc menu. The Unity WebGL build data makes no calls to AI services. The developer's itch.io account lists other games that were not checked, and no team size is stated. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.

Number of stages
The jam answer says Claude built “the three stages and the ending”; the itch.io page, last updated on 31 Oct 2026, lists four stages, the fourth being Hibari International Airport. Neither source says whether the airport is the ending or a stage added later. (itch.io (AI Browser Game Jam 5, hosted by Focaccai), itch.io)
