A free browser party game of bluffing with your own phone photos: everyone shows a photo for the theme and tells its story, but the werewolves have secretly swapped theirs. The developer says development switched to Claude Code writing the code in June 2025.

About 写真人狼

写真人狼 (Photo Werewolf) is a free online werewolf-style deduction game for 3 to 10 players that runs in a phone browser. The host sets a theme, typed freely or picked from 100 examples such as "a place you remember" or "something delicious", and each player picks a matching photo from their own camera roll. The werewolves' photos are then secretly swapped among the werewolves, so each werewolf has to talk about a photo they did not choose as if it were their own memory. Everyone explains why they picked their photo, there is a single round of discussion, and then a vote: if the player with the most votes is a werewolf, the villagers win. There are either no werewolves (a peaceful village with no swaps) or between two and one fewer than the number of players. A game takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Only the host signs in, with a Google account; invited players join from a link without registering or installing anything. Later additions include a screen mode for showing the game on a big screen, play records and a memory image that combines the game's photos and reveals who the werewolves were. The free plan lets a host run two games a day with villages of 3 to 4 players; paid plans and a one-day pass raise those limits. The site is in Japanese, English and Traditional Chinese. The developer, かずお (atakon on Zenn), shelved four earlier versions before rebuilding it from scratch in 2025, writes that development switched in June 2025 to having AI write the code heavily with Claude Code, and released it on 8 Oct 2025. It is operated by 8chome Co., Ltd. (株式会社八丁目) in Tokyo.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a Zenn article (Japanese) marking a year of operation, the developer says the 2025 rebuild started at a time of GitHub Copilot code completion and AI code review, with the code still mostly written by hand; the developer then started using Claude Code as it became popular, took out a Max plan on 9 Jun 2025 and from then switched to development in which AI writes the code heavily (AI にゴリゴリ書いてもらう開発). In September 2025, just before release, 152 pull requests were merged in one month across the front-end, back-end and infrastructure repositories. After release, Sentry is connected to Claude Code through MCP, and Claude Code investigates and fixes production problems; the repositories were later merged into a monorepo because that is easier for AI to work in. A second article says the move from AWS to Cloudflare on 27 Sep 2026 took about nine days and 36 pull requests, most of them created by Claude Code, with the developer checking key points and deciding when to run each step. The articles do not say how much of the code AI wrote or which model was used.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperZenn article (16 Oct 2026): the work was done with Claude Code, and most of the 36 pull requests for the AWS-to-Cloudflare move were created by Claude Code. — Zenn (かずお)

Used for code completion at the start of the 2025 rebuild, when the developer still wrote most of the code by hand, per the Zenn article.

Development approach

The idea dates from 2022, when the developer built a proof of concept as a work goal; versions in React Native, iOS (SwiftUI, on the App Store in May 2023) and Android (Jetpack Compose, never finished) followed and were shelved. In 2025, during parental leave, the developer rebuilt it from scratch as a web game, choosing technology to learn: infrastructure built on AWS, a Go back end and GraphQL. From June 2025 Claude Code wrote the code heavily, per the developer. After release the developer added monitoring that alerts when sign-ups drop, smoke tests and Sentry connected to Claude Code through MCP. On 27 Sep 2026 production moved from AWS (about US$190 a month) to Cloudflare: the API was rewritten in TypeScript with Hono on Workers, with D1 and Durable Objects, while the Go code that builds the memory images kept running in Cloudflare Containers.

Verification notes: AI use, the release date (8 Oct 2025) and the history come from the developer's Zenn articles of 15 Oct 2026 (one year of operation) and 16 Oct 2026 (the Cloudflare move), both updated on 18 Oct 2026 and both linking photowerewolf.app. Rules, player counts, sign-in and the free-plan limits come from the site's Japanese landing page and FAQ; plan prices from the site's legal notice (last updated 7 Oct 2026), which names 株式会社八丁目 (8chome Co., Ltd.) as seller. The English title Photo Werewolf and the Traditional Chinese title 照片狼人殺 are the site's own language versions. The site does not mention AI. Earlier versions (the 2022 proof of concept and the 2023 iOS app) predate the AI-written rebuild and are not listed. Event sales the developer mentions (¥3,200 over two days at a Game Market, about 30 physical expansion packs sold in May 2026 at a loss of about ¥110,000) are not recorded as metrics. Team size is not stated. The game was not played; players use their own photos, and nothing in the sources describes AI used during play.

Each figure measures something different — concurrent players, owners, downloads and sales are never interchangeable and are never added together. Labels show where each number comes from.
