About The Brave Knight

A short medieval-fantasy action game in pixel art that runs in the browser. You play a knight who wakes up after a war, picks up a sword and later a bow, and moves stage by stage through forest, caves and a castle, climbing ladders, riding a horse, reading signs, talking to people and picking up potions and new abilities, with companions who fight alongside you. Among the objectives in the game are defeating a hydra and finally the Dark Lord. The sword is used with a click and the bow by clicking, pulling back and letting go. The developer posted it on Hacker News as a pixel game “vibecoded” in six hours and says they used Claude Code with Opus 5.5, asked for plain JavaScript and HTML with no external libraries, dictated what each stage should look like, and that Opus 5.5 also drew the pixel sprites. The music and sound effects are from Wikimedia Commons, with victory music from StockTune. Free, on a computer with mouse and keyboard.

How it was built

Partially verified

In the comments on their Hacker News post the developer says they “just used claude code”, with Matt Pocock's /wayfinder skill for the first stage only, and asked for plain JavaScript and HTML with no external libraries. They dictated what each stage should look like with ChatGPT's speech-to-text and pasted the transcript into Claude Code running Opus 5.5; for the first stage it “thought for 30min”, and for later stages it “usually one shotted 95%”, after which they made tweaks to monsters and gameplay. They say they used “only opus 5.5 the whole way”, including for the pixel sprites, and not Sprite Fusion's paid service.

Development approach

Built in about six hours, stage by stage, from voice-transcribed requests, per the developer. The game is a bundled JavaScript file drawing on a small 320 × 180 canvas, with no game engine; it loads audio through the Wikimedia Commons API and uses Vercel Analytics. After feedback in the Hacker News thread the developer made any key advance the dialogue and made the cave ceiling block arrows.

Verification notes: AI use, the six hours, the tools and the audio sources from the Hacker News post “I vibecoded a 2d pixel game in 6h yesterday” (1 Nov 2026, 15:44 UTC, user irisguy) and the poster's comments in it (1–4 Nov 2026); 21 points and 15 comments on 4 Nov 2026 (observed, not a metric). The game title, stages, weapons, horse, potions, abilities, the hydra and the Dark Lord come from the game page and its script; we did not play to the end. The developer's name rests on the domain: the game is served from sabih.dev, whose home page names its owner Sabih, and the poster's later changes appeared there; no page states that irisguy is Sabih. “95%” describes how often a stage came out right in one go, not a share of the code, so no AI code share is recorded. The game's script talks only to its own site, the Wikimedia Commons API (for audio) and Vercel Analytics; no calls to AI services were found. The developer mentions a hidden key to skip stages, added for testing; it is not described as a feature. Team size and location are not stated; the release date is not stated, and the post says the game was made the day before.
