About The Far Colony
A single-player strategy game in the browser in which you play the colony organism, not the colonists. The official submission describes a lunar colony organism that grows from a damaged alien seed, spreading organs through the dust while human machines try to burn it out. You extend veins across the moon's surface and grow organs on them: growth nodes that push the veins further, eyes that open sight into the fog, bladders that feed on volatile pools, storage cysts, bone walls between anchor nodes and lance pits that fire bone spikes at burn drones and scout rovers. Biomass pays for each organ, DNA points earned from it buy upgrades and unlocks in a DNA web, and a human alert meter rises as the colony draws attention; if the biomass runs out, the colony collapses. The entrant says the jam, and another jam's “alien” theme, gave the push to try a strategy game about moon colonisation from an alien point of view. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Codex as the tool. It finished 49th of 945 entries. Free, on desktop; the submission marks it as not mobile-ready.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Codex as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. No devlog describes how Codex was used or which model ran it, and the submission covers the jam version only.
- OfficialJam rule 3: at least 90% of the code has to be written by AI. — Vibe Jam (Pieter Levels)
Built for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 on Three.js, with Codex named as the tool. The game ships as a dozen plain JavaScript files (terrain, volatile pools, human drones, rovers, buildings and sites, the construction interface and the main game script) with no build step, plus a 3D rover model and texture images; its sound effects are synthesized in code.

“I've been interested in making a strategy game and both this jam and a different one gave me a push to actually try it for once.”Verification notes: Tool (Codex), engine, genre, pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No) and mobile (No) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 1 May 2026, 13:32 UTC; final rank 49 of 945 entries, no award); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The entrant also states that the game was not submitted to the other jam and did not exist before 1 April 2026. Developer unknown: the jam data gives only the X handle @MoeMagicLantern; on 4 Nov 2026 that account showed the display name 萌え幻灯, a join date of 1 May 2026 and no posts, bio or website (an earlier lookup the same day returned “not found”), and the game page names no one, so the record uses the handle. Team size is not stated. Organ names, the DNA web, the human alert meter and the collapse rule come from the game's page and scripts. We fetched all twelve scripts: the network calls go only to the game's own files and the jam widget; no calls to AI services were found. The jam page's widget counter showed 95 plays for the-far-colony.netlify.app on 4 Nov 2026 (observed; plays are sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as a metric). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 1 May 2026.
