About Firebreak
A daily puzzle game in the browser. Each day brings a new map of offices, houses, trees, grass and rock with a fire burning on it. Every turn you place one firebreak and the fire then spreads; offices are worth 10 points, houses 5 and trees 1, grass is worth nothing and rock cannot burn, so it acts as a natural firebreak. The aim is to save the most in the fewest turns. The game keeps a streak, has a top-10 leaderboard (with optional Google sign-in to keep a display name), lets you share your result as a grid, and can be switched between a pixel and an emoji look. The About panel reads “Built in London, by Jimpong aka. James Yorke”, and the entrant names Wordle and enclosed horse as inspiration. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Cursor as the tool. It finished 490th of 945 entries. Free in the browser.
How it was built

Verification notes: Tool (Cursor), engine (“no engine!”), genre (Puzzle), pitch, inspiration (“Wordle and enclosed horse”) and the multiplayer (Yes), mobile (Yes) and portal (Yes) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 13 Apr 2026, 11:51 UTC; final rank 490 of 945 entries, no award), re-read on 5 Nov 2026; rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. Developer: the game's About panel names Jimpong aka. James Yorke, built in London, and links jamesyorke.dev (a portfolio of a senior iOS and Android engineer). The jam data gives the X handle ekroysdj (profile name “J”, location London), which is not linked from the game; read backwards the handle is “jdsyorke”, which fits the name, but no source states that this is the same person. Team size is not stated. “Multiplayer” here means the shared leaderboard. Rules, scoring and features come from the game page; the game was not played. No calls to AI services were found in the game's code. The jam page's widget counters were not checked for this game. The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 13 Apr 2026 (UTC). The slug includes “daily-puzzle” to tell this game apart from other games named Firebreak.
