About Lightkeeper

An arcade game about a lighthouse keeper on a rocky cape. Through seven stormy nights ships come in from the dark sea, and they can only plan a course across water your beam has lit: hold the light on a ship long enough and it charts a safe way to the harbour, look away too soon and it sails blind. You aim the beam with the mouse or a finger (wide and short near the lamp, long and narrow far out), flash to light the whole sea at the cost of oil, and later use a fog siren to stop every ship for a few seconds. Each night adds something, from fog banks, lightning, currents and rain to a kraken that rises under neglected ships, smugglers who bolt when lit and, on the last night, a flagship. Three wrecks lose the night. Between nights, letters arrive from the people you saved and the harbour sells upgrades. All seven nights take about 15 to 20 minutes. The solo developer, TheDannos, says there is zero hand-written code: Claude Code wrote the game logic and drew all the art in code over 13 days, with Suno music and ElevenLabs sound effects. Free in the browser on itch.io, including phones in landscape; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer's jam submission says: “One person, zero hand-written code.” The developer designed the game and made every call, and AI agents built the rest in 13 days: in Claude Code, Opus 5.5 drew all the art in code (a 2D canvas woodcut style with no image files) and Sonnet 5.5 wrote the game logic, with parallel agents on separate branches producing about 4,500 lines of vanilla JavaScript. Claude also wrote two autopilot bots, an “expert” and a sloppy “human”, that played hundreds of simulated nights to tune the difficulty, though the developer's own playtests had the final word. The agent checked its work with screenshots in a headless browser. The itch.io credits say the code, art and tools were written with Claude in Claude Code.

Development approach

Solo development over 13 days for AI Browser Game Jam 5: the developer designed the game and made the calls, and Claude Code agents running Opus 5.5 (art drawn in code) and Sonnet 5.5 (game logic) built it in parallel on separate branches, about 4,500 lines of vanilla JavaScript. The music was generated with Suno and the sound effects with ElevenLabs (the developer picked 25 of 98 takes by ear); Claude mastered and looped both. ZzFX by Frank Force (MIT) supplies short UI blips; fonts are IM Fell English SC and Barlow Semi Condensed (SIL Open Font License 1.1).

Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page and the credits on the itch.io page, both re-read on 4 Nov 2026; model names (Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5) are quoted as the developer gives them. The 100% AI code share reflects “zero hand-written code”. Team size 1 and the 13 days from the jam answer (“One person … in 13 days”); the itch.io credits say the music was generated with Suno “from our prompts”. Publication (30 Oct 2026, 15:27 UTC), the English language field, inputs (keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, smartphone) and “Average session: About a half-hour” from the itch.io page; the page itself says all seven nights take about 15–20 minutes. Suno and ElevenLabs audio ships as files; the game loads only its own audio files and makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 4 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
