About Overswing

Overswing is a free 2D time-attack game played in the browser. You are a steampunk monkey with two brass plunger grapple guns: aim with the mouse, hold the button to fire and hang on, swing and reel in or out with the keys, and let go to fly. The rope wraps around corners and unwraps as you swing back, you keep all your speed when you release, and nothing steers you in the air. There are four courses with up to three stars each and a global leaderboard; in Race mode you chase real players' runs (recorded as ghosts), in Practice mode you race your own best runs, and the endless Survivor mode sends you along an endless canopy ahead of a darkness that never stops. Best times save in the browser, and a nickname is only needed to appear on the leaderboard, which runs on the developer's own server. The developer describes it as Worms' ninja rope meets Trackmania. In a post on r/ClaudeAI the developer, br1ckface, says Claude Code wrote the game in Godot 4.7 with GDScript, plus a small Python server for the leaderboards, while the developer did the design, feel and architecture; the character art and music were made with Google Gemini, and the sound effects, backdrop models and photos come from Pixabay, Quaternius (CC0) and Unsplash. Free on itch.io, played with keyboard and mouse, and listed as in development. In English.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/ClaudeAI (7 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “Claude Code wrote the game in Godot 4.7 / GDScript with a lightweight Python server for leaderboards.” The developer's own role was design, feel and architecture. A CLAUDE.md file served as project memory, with a section of “traps already paid for” (engine quirks) and design rules such as no aim assist and instant restart, so that Claude would not try to “improve” them. Claude built an in-game panel of debug sliders that the developer used to tune gameplay values; physics runs on a fixed 120 Hz tick with about 800 headless tests, and a tool replays every kept ghost run before a physics change. For art passes, three reviewer agents scored captured screenshots, each with its own focus, and a fourth agent made the code changes (during development, not in the game). Claude also wrote a browser benchmark and a background shader-compilation step that, per the developer, cut web load times from about 30 seconds to about 8 in Chrome and Edge. The model is not named.

Listed by the developer under “Not made by Claude”: Google Gemini made the character art and the music. The itch.io credits also say the music was generated with Google Gemini. No source says Gemini wrote any code.

Development approach

Built in Godot 4.7 with GDScript by Claude Code, with the developer directing design, feel and architecture, per the Reddit post. The first commit was on 5 Sep 2026 and the game went public on 5 Oct 2026. Ghosts store inputs rather than positions, and a physics change that would alter an existing ghost goes behind a physics version key so older ghosts still replay. Leaderboards and Race mode use the developer's own server (api.playoverswing.com, per the itch.io page). Assets not made by Claude: character art and music from Google Gemini, sound effects from Pixabay, backdrop models by Quaternius (CC0), backdrop photos from Unsplash and voice-over from fish.audio.

Verification notes: AI use, the workflow and the asset credits come from the developer's post on r/ClaudeAI by u/br1ckface (7 Oct 2026, 19:28 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive on 5 Nov 2026; it links the itch.io page. Gameplay, controls, credits, privacy details, the In development status, the Platformer genre, “Made with Godot”, the English language field and the AI disclosure come from the itch.io page, re-read on 5 Nov 2026 (updated 13 Oct 2026, 22:28 UTC). The developer gives 5 Oct 2026 as the public date; the first itch.io devlog, “Overswing is out”, is dated 6 Oct 2026, 00:12 UTC, which is still 5 Oct in American time zones. No AI code share is given. The itch.io privacy text says the server is “run by us”, so the team size is left open. The “AI reviewers” in the post title are agents that scored screenshots during development, not a feature of the game; the itch.io build's web loader calls no AI services (the Godot game data itself was not inspected), and its only outside service is the developer's leaderboard server. itch.io shows no rating or download count. The post had a score of 1 on Arctic Shift (observed; not a metric). The game was not played.
