A browser demolition derby with denting cars: a dusk figure-8 race with a crossing in the middle, and a floodlit Bowl where the last car running wins. The README says every line of code came from Claude Code.

Rights holder / original work: Destruction Derby (Reflections Interactive / Psygnosis, 1995)

The README says the game is made in the spirit of Destruction Derby (PlayStation, 1995): one of its events is called Destruction Derby, its points “follow the original” (spinning a car 90° earns 2, 360° earns 10) and its Bowl AI uses the original manual's “Destruction Derby Code”; the game page describes it as “a Destruction Derby-style game”. No source shows a licence for the name. Separately, the README says the five Collect Car models, their designs and the Collect names belong to Collect (collect.app), all rights reserved, and are excluded from the game's MIT licence; it does not state the developer's relationship to Collect. About Demolition Derby

Demolition Derby is a free 3D car-combat game for desktop browsers, made by Patrick Hable in the spirit of Destruction Derby (PlayStation, 1995). You drive one of five Collect Car models (a hypercar, a wedge, a rally truck, an endurance prototype and a streamliner) in three events: the Figure 8, a dirt track at a county fair at dusk whose straights cross in the middle so the field drives through its own traffic twice a lap, with roller jumps after the crossing; Destruction Derby in the Bowl, a round floodlit arena where you and up to eleven AI cars fight until one is left running or the four-minute clock runs out; and Total Destruction, where every other car is out to get you. Points follow the original game's scoring for spinning and wrecking cars. Damage is tracked in four zones and four wheels: cars dent where they are hit, paint scrapes to bare metal, glass cracks, wings and mirrors tear off, radiators steam and burn, and damaged steering pulls. The AI drivers have their own aggression; at the crossing some lift and some go for the T-bone. A garage lets you paint the car and add stripes, neon and a door number; engines, crashes and the crowd are synthesised with no audio files. Keyboard or gamepad. The README says every line of code, the Blender pipeline for the cars and the scenery came out of plain-language conversation with Claude Code. In English.

How it was built

Partially verified

The README's “Made with Claude Code” section says every line of code, the Blender pipeline for the cars and the scenery came out of a conversation with Claude Code, with prompts in plain words, “typos and all”, and quotes several of them: the first request for a demolition derby with dents and breaking glass that remembered a round stadium level (Claude researched the 1995 game's Bowl and scoring), a request to rig the car models, the idea of a figure-8 cross race, and “is there sound”. The licence section adds that the game's code and art were made with Claude Code, and the game page says it was built with Claude Code and Claude Opus 5.5.

Development approach

Vite, TypeScript, Three.js r186, Rapier 0.20 physics and Web Audio, per the README: a raycast vehicle model with spring-damper suspension, denting by vertex displacement, a fixed 120 Hz physics step, separate derby and racing AI, and procedural engine, crash, glass and crowd sound with no samples. A Blender 5.2 script rebuilds the five Collect Car models for crashing (spinning, steering wheels, cracking glass, parts that tear off, bodies dense enough to dent). BRIEF.md holds the research on the original game and the design. The code is set up for host-authoritative multiplayer as a next step; a separate private deployment behind sign-in is optional and not the public build.

Verification notes: Gameplay, stack, prompts and the AI statement come from the repository README, LICENSE (MIT, © 2026 Patrick Hable) and the cars' LICENSE.md, read through raw.githubusercontent.com on 6 Nov 2026; Claude Opus 5.5 is named on the game page as quoted. The public GitHub Pages build loaded on 6 Nov 2026; its scripts make no calls to AI services. The README also contains dev-only test helpers, which are not described as features. Not the same game as the existing record “Demolition Derby” by Merijn van Es (demolition-derby-xyz). The Destruction Derby name and the Collect Car models are covered in the IP notice. No release date is given and repository dates and stars were not checked (the GitHub API was not reachable from our checker). Team size and location are not stated. The game was not played.
