About Fruman
Fruman is a 2D side-scrolling action game demo that runs in the browser, made by a souls-like fan as a simple souls-like action game. Per the README it has real-time combat, weapons and skills, grappling, terrain interactions, lighting and a day-night cycle, and a built-in editor in which you can create your own maps, scenes and character bodies. It is written in TypeScript: PixiJS draws the game, Box2D compiled to WebAssembly runs the physics, and the game logic runs in a Web Worker on an entity-component-system design. The game can be switched between Simplified Chinese and English. Posting it on Hacker News, the developer calls it “just a little demo” and says it is mostly coded with AI agents, naming Codex and Claude; the repository carries the instruction files those agents read. Free; the source code is published on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 licence.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe Show HN post says the game is “mostly coding with AI agents (codex / claude)”. The repository has an AGENTS.md file, the instruction file that Codex reads, with rules for the agents: keep frame rates steady, use object pools instead of temporary objects, avoid floating-point maths, run lint and format after every change, and so on. The developer does not say how the work was split between the two agents.
- ObservedAGENTS.md in the repository: a list of coding rules addressed to the agent (for example “After making code changes, run npm run lint && npm run format and fix any errors”). — GitHub (oodzchen)
Named as “claude” among the “AI agents (codex / claude)” in the Show HN post. The repository also has a CLAUDE.md file, the instruction file that Claude Code reads, which points to AGENTS.md; on that basis the agent is recorded as Claude Code.
- ObservedCLAUDE.md in the repository, whose only content is a reference to AGENTS.md. — GitHub (oodzchen)
Mostly coded with AI agents, per the developer, steered by a shared rule file (AGENTS.md, referenced from CLAUDE.md). The game is written in TypeScript and built with Vite: PixiJS renders, Box2D in WebAssembly handles physics, and the game logic runs in a Web Worker using an entity-component-system design. The page is installable as a web app and has a separate mobile layout.

“it's mostly coding with AI agents (codex / claude).”Verification notes: The AI claim rests on one sentence in the Show HN post of 4 Aug 2026 (07:03 UTC, user Kholin): “it's mostly coding with AI agents (codex / claude)”. Codex is recorded as the developer names it; “claude” is recorded as Claude Code because the developer calls it an AI agent and the repository has a CLAUDE.md file. The agent instruction files (AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md), the README (English and Chinese), the package file and the AGPL-3.0 LICENSE were read through raw.githubusercontent.com; github.com and the GitHub API did not answer our checks, so commit history was not read. The README itself says nothing about AI. The post says the game was made with “pure JavaScript”, while the README and the code say TypeScript. Features come from the README; the souls-like label is the developer's. The hosted demo loaded on 4 Nov 2026 (HTML lang zh-CN); the settings menu in its script switches between Simplified Chinese and English, and no calls to AI services were found. The Show HN post is the earliest dated mention found, so no release date is recorded. Team size and location are not stated. The demo was not played.
Development history
The developer posts the demo on Hacker News as a Show HN, with a link to the source code.
