About Pest Control

A 2D run-and-gun platformer in which you play an exterminator sent down into a sprawling underground infestation. You fight mutated insects through five illustrated levels (Sewers, Boiler Room, Hive, Cold Storage and Reactor), each ending in a boss whose attacks escalate in phases, while you uncover the source of the outbreak. There are five weapons, from an industrial spray gun to a flamethrower and an electrical zapper, three difficulty settings, 20 achievements including no-hit challenges, checkpoints, high scores and statistics, and animated opening and ending cinematics. It plays with keyboard and mouse, a gamepad, or on-screen touch controls with automatic targeting on mobile. The developer, KushZombie, says the game is based on an original childhood concept and that Claude built the original game and handled much of the later programming, the HD visual upgrade, debugging and optimization, while ChatGPT developed Level 3 and helped with further programming, visual direction, testing and release preparation; the soundtrack was generated with Aubum, which the developer describes as their own locally hosted AI system. Free in the browser on itch.io; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5 and Ultimate AI-Powered Game Jam #6.

The AI Tools Used answer on the AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission says Claude built the original game and handled much of the subsequent programming, the HD visual upgrades, debugging and optimization. The entrant's submission to Ultimate AI-Powered Game Jam #6 says Claude created the original game and handled much of its later development, including gameplay implementation, visual upgrades and technical improvements. No Claude model or product (chat or Claude Code) is named, and no code share is given.

Supporting evidence
ChatGPTSecondary

Per the AI Browser Game Jam 5 answer, ChatGPT developed Level 3 and assisted with additional programming, visual direction, testing and release preparation.

Development approach

Built during the AI Browser Game Jam 5 window (17 to 31 Oct 2026), per the entrant, from an original concept the developer had as a child. Claude built the original game and did much of the later programming, the HD visual overhaul, debugging and optimization; ChatGPT made Level 3 and helped with more programming, visual direction, testing and release preparation. Grok contributed three concept-art reference images, and the soundtrack was generated from text prompts with Aubum, which the developer calls their own locally hosted AI system. The developer says they supplied the concept, directed development, made the creative and gameplay decisions and playtested throughout. The second jam submission adds that the new illustrated artwork first caused severe frame-rate drops in boss fights, which were fixed with rendering optimizations, cached artwork and adaptive resolution, and that AI was also used for the illustrated assets, character and enemy art, backgrounds, animation, cinematics, dialogue and interface design. The browser build is a single HTML file that draws on a 2D canvas, with no game framework identified (observed).

Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answers on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 and Ultimate AI-Powered Game Jam #6 submission pages, both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. The itch.io page itself says only that development included AI-assisted programming, artwork and audio production, with creative direction, testing and development decisions guided by the creator, and carries the itch.io AI disclosure (AI Assisted: Code, Graphics, Sounds, Text). The jam answers say Claude built the original game and much of the later programming but give no percentage, so no AI code share is recorded. The developer writes “I” in the jam answer and the second submission says “we”; the itch.io page says contributor and playtester credits are in the game, so no team size is recorded. Publication (27 Oct 2026, 17:53 UTC) and last update (31 Oct 2026, 20:57 UTC) from the itch.io page, which files the game under Shooter and Platformer and lists two devlogs (“Bug Fix” and “Dark Polish”), which were not opened. The engine is not named; the build is a single HTML file drawing on a 2D canvas with its music embedded (observed), and it makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026 in both jams, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
