About Hollowflame
A short top-down dungeon-crawler roguelite about light and darkness. Your torch burns down every second, and as the flame shrinks so does the only safe space in the deep. Ancient braziers refuel it and push the dark back; Shades burn if you keep them inside your flame, Moths drink your fuel and Wraiths only burn close to fire. A Flare ability blasts the dark away, and an Ember Shrine between floors offers nine upgrades. You descend eight procedurally generated floors to face the Hollow King, a monster you can only hurt by luring him into brazier light. A run takes about 15 to 25 minutes, and the game saves between floors. The developer, Leonardo Guidolin, credits Claude (Anthropic) with the game design, all of the code (vanilla JavaScript and Canvas, including the dynamic lighting and the procedural dungeons), the text and translations and the procedural Web Audio sound; the sprites and art were made with ChatGPT image generation and the soundtrack with Treblo. Free in the browser on itch.io, in English and Brazilian Portuguese, with keyboard or touch controls; it was entered in AI Browser Game Jam 5.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page credits Claude (Anthropic) with the game design, all of the code (vanilla JavaScript and Canvas, including the dynamic lighting and the procedural dungeons), the text and translations and the procedural Web Audio sound. The same answer credits Treblo with the music soundtrack. No model is named. The itch.io page has no AI statement of its own beyond its AI disclosure, which ticks Code, Graphics, Sounds and Text.
- DeveloperThe developer's itch.io profile: “Games are made with the help of AI tools and marked as AI-assisted on each page for transparency.” — itch.io (Leonardo Guidolin)
The jam answer credits “ChatGPT image generation” with the sprites and art. It does not say ChatGPT was used for any code.
Per the entrant's jam answer, Claude wrote all of the code in vanilla JavaScript on an HTML Canvas, including the dynamic torch lighting and the procedural dungeon generation, and the sound is generated procedurally with Web Audio. Claude also did the game design and the text and translations (the game is in English and Brazilian Portuguese). The sprites and art came from ChatGPT image generation and the soundtrack from Treblo.

“Claude (Anthropic) for game design, all code (vanilla JS + Canvas, dynamic lighting, procedural dungeons), text/translations and procedural WebAudio sound.”Verification notes: AI use from the AI Tools Used answer on the official AI Browser Game Jam 5 submission page, re-read on 5 Nov 2026. It credits Claude with all of the code but gives no percentage, so no AI code share is recorded. The itch.io page gives no AI statement beyond its AI disclosure (Code, Graphics, Sounds, Text); it describes an “original orchestral dark-ambient soundtrack and hand-picked painterly sprites”, which the jam answer attributes to Treblo and to ChatGPT image generation. Publication (27 Oct 2026, 16:17 UTC), the features, controls, run length and the English and Brazilian Portuguese versions from the itch.io page. The developer is recorded as solo from the first-person itch.io profile (“a small dev”); team size is not stated. The browser build is plain JavaScript and makes no calls to AI services. Jam voting was still open on 5 Nov 2026, so no placement is recorded; itch.io shows no public rating. The game was not played.
