About BeatPaws

A 3D rhythm game in the browser. Neon cat performers bounce down four beat lanes while you hit the notes with A, S, D and F and dodge hazards; a second player can join on the same keyboard with H, J, K and L. There are ten tracks with names such as Midnight Meow FM, Laser Yarn Chase, Neon Alley Sprint and Bubble Bass Pounce, several difficulty charts and map themes, local rankings and an optional global leaderboard that can be filtered by country, and the game starts without menus, logins or loading screens. On phones it is single-player, with four large pads at the bottom of the screen. The entrant's pitch says the cats are AI-generated, and that the game was inspired by arcade rhythm games and retro neon worlds. The developer, Seowoo Han, describes it as a playable web rhythm game built with Codex and has given a talk about how its “AI-written code” became a real product. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Codex as the tool. It finished 468th of 945 entries. Free in the browser.

How it was built

Partially verified
CodexPrimary

The developer's portfolio says the game was built with Codex for Vibe Jam 2026 and describes the build process as “shipping AI-written code as a real product”; a talk listed there covers “how AI-written code becomes a real playable product through small loops, playtesting, feedback, and iteration”. In the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Codex as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. The developer's X profile describes them as an OpenAI Codex Ambassador (community). The entrant's pitch says the cats are AI-generated; the tool used for them is not named. No model is named and no code share is given.

Development approach

Built with Codex for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 on Three.js. The developer's portfolio describes the process as small loops of iteration, playtesting and feedback, and lists a talk about it at Dankook University. The cat performers are AI-generated, according to the entrant's pitch. The game's music manifest lists the ten tracks as generated in advance with Google's Lyria 3 model (provider “gemini-lyria-3”) and they ship as MP3 files; nothing is generated while you play.

Verification notes: Tool (Codex), engine (ThreeJS), genre (Rhythm), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (Yes), mobile (Yes) and portal (No) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 1 May 2026, 02:50 UTC; final rank 468 of 945 entries, no award), re-read on 5 Nov 2026; rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The Codex statement is on the developer's own portfolio, which links the game. Developer: the jam handle swhan0329 belongs to the X profile Seowoo Han (Seoul, South Korea; “Production AI engineer in Seoul”, “OpenAI Codex Ambassador (community)”, “Cerebras Ambassador”), which links the portfolio; the portfolio also gives the Korean name 한서우. The ambassador role is a community affiliation with the maker of the named tool. Team size is not stated. “Multiplayer” here means two players on one keyboard plus an online leaderboard. Tracks, controls and modes come from the game page and script; the game was not played. The game's code was checked for calls to AI services and none were found. The jam page's widget counters were not checked for this game. The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 1 May 2026 (UTC).
