About Turbo Kartz

Turbo Kartz is a free cartoon kart racer that runs in the browser. You race one against three bots, or two to four players share one screen split into halves or quarters, each with their own camera, colour and power meter. There are four tracks, Sunny Meadow, Candy Canyon, Snowy Peaks and Beach Bay, each with two or three jump ramps a lap; press any button in the air for a spin and a short boost when you land. Characters have their own powers, and there are three modes: EASY, where the kart follows the road in your lane when you let go of the stick, MANUAL, and KIDS, where the kart drives itself. It plays with standard gamepads (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro), the keyboard, touch controls on phones, or phones used as controllers over a small relay, and it can be installed as an app. The developer, Anass Kartit, says in a DEV Community write-up that Claude Sonnet 5.5 built the game in 12 prompts in Claude Code and Claude Opus 5.5 then made it playable on a TV in eight more, with split screen, the easy mode, the jumps and the extra tracks; the developer's games page says every game on it was built by directing an AI model, not by typing the code. The music and sound effects were made with Lyria 3 Pro and the track pictures with Codex image generation, before release. The same developer made Kartit Nitro, a separate game.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer says Claude Sonnet 5.5 built the game in Claude Code in 12 prompts, starting from a request for a cartoon kart-racing intro made with HyperFrames and Three.js, and that Claude Opus 5.5 then did the TV and split-screen upgrade in eight more prompts: split screen with gamepad detection, the EASY mode, per-player character selection, a gamepad tutorial, jumps, the music and sound effects, the extra tracks and browser play on Mac and Windows. All 20 prompts are published. A later session with Opus 5.5 added phones as controllers, touch controls and installing it as an app. The games page says the code ran on a Claude subscription.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperThe developer's games page: “Every game here is free, runs in your browser and was built by directing an AI model (Claude or Gemini), not by typing the code.” Its Turbo Kartz entry: “Claude Sonnet 5.5 built it in Claude Code, then Claude Opus 5.5 fixed what real players broke”. — kartit.net
  • DeveloperThe prompts page lists the 20 requests under “Claude Sonnet 5.5 in Claude Code” and “Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code” and says the game was “built in Claude Code by typing short requests”. — kartit.net
CodexSecondary

Codex image generation painted the track pictures in the menu and the starting-grid poster from screenshots of the game. These are images made before release; the developer does not credit Codex with code.

Development approach

Built from 20 short prompts in Claude Code: 12 with Claude Sonnet 5.5 for the game, then eight with Claude Opus 5.5 after the first real play tests on the developer's TV. The game is a Three.js browser game; an Android TV wrapper (5.2 MB, tested on the developer's own TV) forwards each gamepad to the game but has no public store listing. Music (a race loop and a menu loop) and the jump, landing and boost sounds came from Google's Lyria 3 Pro (US$0.40 logged), and HyperFrames recorded the trailer. The developer says no build cost for the code was logged.

“Turbo Kartz is a cartoon kart racer for 1 to 4 players that I built in Claude Code: Claude Sonnet 5.5 built the game, Claude Opus 5.5 did the TV and split-screen upgrade.”

Verification notes: The AI claim comes from the developer's DEV Community post (4 Oct 2026, a cross-post of the developer's kartit.net blog), the prompts page and the games page on kartit.net, all re-read on 4 Nov 2026; model names are quoted as the developer gives them. The developer signs the post and the site as Anass Kartit; the developer object is the one already used for Kartit Nitro (DEV handle akartit), which is the same person's kartit.net site. Gameplay, tracks, modes and controls come from the post and the games page; the play page loaded on 4 Nov 2026, in English. Its script connects only to the developer's own relay for phone controllers (a Cloudflare Workers address) and makes no calls to AI services. The Android TV app is described in the post but has no public listing, so it is not recorded. Browser gamepad play was tested with simulated gamepads, per the developer. No release date is confirmed: the earliest dated source is the DEV post, which says it went up on the developer's blog first. The games page lists US$1.43 paid per use (Lyria music US$0.40, an intro video US$1.03); the code ran on a Claude subscription and its cost was not logged. The game was not played through.
