About Big Wave Surfing
A 3D surfing game in the browser about riding big waves. You start on the open ocean as a huge wave rolls in from behind, turn your board, paddle into it and ride the face ahead of the breaking foam, which breaks from left to right; stay in front of the break or get wiped out. Along the way you avoid obstacles and collect stars, on waves with different levels of difficulty. The developer's README explains the physics: the slope of the wave pulls the board in the direction it points, the fins resist sliding sideways, and hard turns cost speed. The entrant says it was made for workmates who have never surfed, to give them a small part of the joy of riding a wave, “not about tricks, but the simple fun physics”. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Claude Code as the tool. It finished 80th of 945 entries. Free, played with the arrow keys or WASD; the submission marks it as mobile-ready. The source code is public on GitHub.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Claude Code as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. The repository's README does not mention AI, and no devlog describes how Claude Code was used or which model ran it. The submission covers the jam version only.
- OfficialJam rule 3: at least 90% of the code has to be written by AI. — Vibe Jam (Pieter Levels)
Built for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 in TypeScript with Three.js and Vite, with Claude Code named as the tool. Per the README, the wave is a dynamic vertex-coloured mesh, a React overlay shows ride time and speed, and a wake trail behind the board grows wider and brighter with speed.

“I made it for my workmates who have never surfed to feel a small part of the joy I feel when surfing - not about tricks, but the simple fun physics of riding a wave.”Verification notes: Tool (Claude Code), engine, genre, pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No), mobile and portal flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 20 Apr 2026, 16:52 UTC; final rank 80 of 945 entries, no award); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. Gameplay, controls, physics and tech stack from the repository's README and package.json, read through raw.githubusercontent.com because github.com itself did not respond to our checks; the repository's licence, stars and commit history are therefore unchecked, and no LICENSE, CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md file was found at its root. Developer: the jam data gives the X handle rolznz (display name Roland; bio “bitcoin + ai at @getalby”), which matches the repository owner; the X profile does not link the game. The surname is not given, and team size is not stated. The game's script talks only to Umami analytics; the live page does not load the jam widget or portal script (checked 4 Nov 2026), and no calls to AI services were found. The jam page's widget counters showed 213 plays and 101 portal transfers for bigwavesurfing.fun on 4 Nov 2026 (observed; sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as metrics). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 20 Apr 2026.
