About Call Of The Abyss
A wave-defence shooter in the browser subtitled A Crab's Last Stand. You play the last crab on a sun-bleached beach, holding the line against endless waves of mutant sea creatures until Cthulhu rises from the abyss. The crab has three water-powered weapons (a pistol, a shotgun and a charged water beam) that refill by walking into the sea, a Sand Burst shockwave and a jump. Enemies drop coins and water droplets; a shop opens every two waves for weapon, health and ability upgrades; and the Burrow, your base on the beach, earns shells over time, hatches minion crabs and must be repaired when enemies damage it. Turtles charge, octopuses throw poison, elites and bosses appear, and from wave 7 Cthulhu returns every five waves, darkening the sky and raining poison on the beach. Runs end on a leaderboard. The entrant says the aim was to see how far AI-assisted vibe coding could push a solo indie game in a few weeks. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Claude Code as the tool. It finished 201st of 945 entries. Free on its own domain, on desktop and mobile browsers.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Claude Code as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. The inspiration answer says the goal was to see how far AI-assisted vibe coding could push a solo indie game in a few weeks, and that the game evolves with each prompt. No devlog describes how Claude Code was used or which model ran it, and the submission covers the jam version only.

“I wanted to see how far AI assisted 'vibe coding' could push a solo indie game in a few weks”Verification notes: Tool (Claude Code), engine, genre (Action, Shooter, Wave-defence), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No), mobile (Yes) and portal (Yes) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 30 Apr 2026, 21:21 UTC; final rank 201 of 945 entries, no award), re-read on 4 Nov 2026; rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The entrant's own wording is “AI assisted 'vibe coding'”; the code-share claim rests on the jam rule. The creator statement is quoted as written (“weks”). Weapons, economy, Burrow, enemies and the Cthulhu boss come from the game's How to Play screen; asset and music credits from its Credits screen; the game was not played. The developer is identified only by the handle ash_mi_nombre: the X profile returned not found on 4 Nov 2026, so no display name is recorded. Solo per the entrant's inspiration answer; the third-party models and music are credited. Cthulhu comes from H. P. Lovecraft's 1928 story, which is in the public domain in the US, so no IP notice is attached. The game's scripts use Firebase (Firestore) for the leaderboard and load the jam widget; no calls to AI services were found. The jam page's widget counters showed 328 plays and 210 portal transfers for calloftheabyss.online on 4 Nov 2026 (observed; sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as metrics). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 30 Apr 2026.
