About Escape From Xibalba
A procedural dark-maze crawl in 3D in the browser, set in Xibalba, the underworld of Maya myth. Each House is a maze in which you light beacons and braziers to stay warm and open the way, followed by a trial and a boss; armed with a jade-handled machete and later a blowgun of bone darts, you collect the halves of sigils and face lords such as the Jaguar God and Camazotz, the death bat. The jam build covers four Houses, the Dark House, the Rattling House, the Jaguar House and the Bat House, and the game says the remaining Houses will follow after the jam. The entrant pitches it as a crawl in which every torch you light, every relic you steal and every boss you survive is one step closer to a way out that may not exist, and says the entrant had always wanted to make a game and the jam was the perfect excuse. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Claude Code as the tool. It finished 659th of 945 entries. Free, for desktop browsers.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Claude Code as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. The game does not mention AI, and no devlog says which model ran Claude Code or how it was used. The submission covers the jam version only.
- OfficialJam rule 3: at least 90% of the code has to be written by AI. — Vibe Jam (Pieter Levels)
Built for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 on Three.js with Claude Code named as the tool, using the pmndrs postprocessing library for its effects; each House has its own music theme. The game is a single bundled script and talks to no game server; its notify-me form opens the player's mail client. The title screen links a source repository on GitHub.

“I've always wanted to make a game and this was the perfect excuse to just do it.”Verification notes: Tool (Claude Code), engine (ThreeJS), genre (Adventure), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No), mobile (No) and portal (No) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 1 May 2026, 07:52 UTC, on the deadline day; final rank 659 of 945 entries, no award); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. Both re-read on 5 Nov 2026. Developer: known only by the handle fmatzdorf, which the jam data gives as the X account and the title screen uses for the GitHub repository; the inspiration answer is written in the first person. The X profile could not be read on 5 Nov 2026 (an earlier researcher read listed Guatemala as its location, which we could not re-confirm, so no location is recorded); no real name or team size is given. The linked GitHub repository could not be opened from here, so its contents and licence were not checked and the game is not marked open source. Houses, weapons, sigils, bosses and the jam-build ending come from the game's text and script; a level-select menu in the page is a debug tool and is not described as a feature. The game was not played through. Xibalba, Camazotz and the other lords come from Maya mythology, not from a commercial work. The script loads Google Tag Manager and the jam widget; no calls to AI services were found (checked 5 Nov 2026). The jam page's widget counter showed 59 plays for xibalba.monkeyscript.com on 5 Nov 2026 (observed; sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as a metric). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 1 May 2026.
