About Graveacre

Graveacre is a free idle survival game in pixel art that runs in the browser on computers and phones. After the Fall, the dead walk the Morne valley, a rural valley somewhere in France, and you hold a fortified farm as your refuge. You choose what your survivor does, from chopping wood, scavenging and fishing to forging and fighting, queue up to five tasks, and they keep working for up to 12 hours while you are away (24 with a generator); when you come back, a summary lists the loot, the levels gained and the encounters that waited for your answer. The site counts 19 skills, 22 places (three of them secret), 152 written encounters with 45 portrayed characters, 36 kinds of enemies including nine bosses, 388 recipes and 533 items, a crafting mini-game, nine refuge buildings, a garden that grows in real time, 17 companions, 31 quests and 67 achievements. Each region has its own weather, shared by every player, and players trade on a market, send mail and parcels and compete on leaderboards. You pick one of four survivors when you sign up; a survivor name is all it takes, with no email and no download. The developer, a frontend developer who posts as u/Juicedead, designed the game, its world, story, mechanics and encounters, and says Claude Code wrote most of the code, lately with Codex too, while they did part of the interface; all of the pixel art comes from the image services PixelLab and Retro Diffusion, driven by Claude Code, and the game makes no AI calls. Free with no ads, in French and English; cosmetics can be unlocked by supporting it on Ko-fi.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/aigamedev (8 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “I'm a frontend dev; Claude Code wrote most of the code (lately Codex too) and I did part of the interface.” The game design, world, story, mechanics, encounter scenarios and the look of the screens are the developer's. Claude Code also runs the art pipeline: it calls the image services PixelLab and Retro Diffusion through their MCP servers, every image is logged with its prompt, a script cleans the results up and a review page lets the developer mark what needs redoing. Several agent sessions work at the same time, each in its own git worktree. The post adds that Claude helped with the final texts and the English translation, and that “The game itself makes no AI calls.” No model is named.

CodexSecondary

The same post says Codex has lately also written code, alongside Claude Code (“Claude Code wrote most of the code (lately Codex too)”). It does not say which parts.

Development approach

Per the developer, they designed the game and did part of the interface, and Claude Code wrote most of the code, lately with Codex. All of the pixel art comes from PixelLab and Retro Diffusion, called by Claude Code through MCP servers: a cleanup script fixes the palette, the alpha and the line the feet stand on, and a small in-house engine recolours the sprites for the time of day, the weather and the lights. Held tools are drawn once and placed on each frame of an empty-handed skeleton animation by a script, because the animation model redrew the axe differently on every frame. The developer says the agent cannot judge its own visuals, so most art fixes came from the developer spotting problems on screenshots. Art costs so far: a PixelLab subscription (2,000 generations a month) and a few dollars of Retro Diffusion. The site credits some icons to game-icons.net (CC BY 3.0).

Verification notes: AI use comes from the developer's post on r/aigamedev by u/Juicedead (8 Oct 2026, 23:11 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive because reddit.com did not answer our checks. “Most of the code” is the developer's wording, so no code share is recorded; Codex is named only as also used lately. The tie between the post and the site rests on the post linking graveacre.com and on both linking the same Discord invite; the site does not name the developer. Features and counts come from the site's /discover page (checked 4 Nov 2026), whose roadmap was updated that day and lists live events in October and November 2026. The release date is not stated; the post says the developer had been making the game for two weeks. The site says it has no ads; it loads a script module named google-ads, which in the code we read handles campaign-visit tracking, and Cloudflare analytics. No AI service addresses were found in the site's scripts, and the post says the game makes no AI calls. Team size and location are not stated (the setting and the site's default language are French). The game was not played.

Development history

  1. The developer shares the playable game on r/aigamedev after about two weeks of work and says Claude Code wrote most of the code.
